Need a new tap and die set. any one have suggestions for a good, reasonable priced set? Just for home shop use and auto restoration. THanks

thanks for asking this, I'd like to know who makes a quality set at a not break the bank price as well...

The last time I looked at them (over 2 years ago), the Hansen taps were still US made. Their handles weren't US made, but the taps are what really matter.

I'd take a look at the various Craftsman T&D sets.. I've got a bunch of them and they've lasted for 30+ years with no issues..

Hansens were always good, but I think that had more to do with Hansen as a company before they were acquired. I don't think COO has much to do with it, but their older US stuff up to about 2007 seemed like solid stuff from my experience.

Irwin brand.

NAPA does or did use Irwin as thier in-house supplier for the NAPA tap and die sets.
May still be Made in USA sourced.

The Hansen sets sold on Amazon/Tooltopia or relabeled by all of the truck brands is about the best package/value set that I'm aware of. Especially if purchased at a discount.
