Ok, well my 15 year old Honeywell (RTH230B) has been in the fritz......so I splurged and bought a new fancy model

Honeywell RTH6500 Wi-Fi series........it was $99

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Honeywe...mable-Thermostat-Free-App-RTH6580WF/203556922

W, Y, R, G was hooked up to the old tstat

In the wiring coming out of the wall, there is a BLUE wire, but it was not installed to the old tsat

I verified inside the furnace, and this BLUE wire is not connected to anything

My old tstat uses two AA batteries.......this new tstat does not.

In the install instructions, it says that is has to be wired with a "C" wire, because the C wire is the primary power source.

So, I only assume that since my old tstat uses AA batteries, I have to return this one and find one that uses batteries?

Is there any way I can hook up the BLUE wire to the panel in my furnace and use the BLUE wire as the "C" wire?

The “C” terminal acts as a common, completing the 24v circuit. Power is provided via the “R” terminal. Some be wer thermostats require the common terminal.

But to answer your question, yes, you can land the a wire on the C terminal at the thermostat and the same wire at the furnace as well.

Ok so since I have a spare wire in the tstat wiring harness, I hope to be able to use it

Inside the furnace, how so I find where the constant 24V is at? Will the panel be marked C?

Yup. That's exactly what you need to do. At the furnace, hook up the Blue to the "C" terminal on the control board or at the transformer.

Well I took the panel off the furnace and found the C terminal (Goodman)

Connected the spare blue wire to the C terminal and then connected the blue wire at the tstat

Thankfully there was an extra wire in the harness I could use..........I HAVE POWER!

Thanks guys, another project done
