I tried the advanced search and had no luck so now I'm posting a noob thread. We're looking at moving in the near future and I've always ran with organized chaos. I hate being this way and I need to organize. When we move I'll be losing a lot of garage space so organization is now mandatory. Please put your best ideas up here and if it goes well, it may become a sticky to avoid a noob post every week.

If you havent touched it or used it in the past 6 months throw it away.

Its amazing how much junk you can get rid of using this method.

The only exception being rare or very expensive pieces as long as they are not huge. Those you can either decide to keep through the move or sell to offset some of the moving expenses.

Some of us are hoarders and find value in everything, regaurdless of how long its been collecting dust.. Its about the time that i throw something away or scrap it that i find a good use for it.

In the country we just threw the **** out back in the weeds or bought a clapped out trailer that wasnt road worthy for dry storage. I now live in suburban hell. Only hillbilly in the neighboorhood that doesnt park in his garage and has chickens. Im sure they will kick me out soon enough.

before we bought this house, i had stuff stored at my moms house, our apt's garage, and at work.

my mom sold her house about 6 months before we bought ours

a lot of stuff never made it to my previous house, it was either trashed, or scrapped.

everything at our old place had to be moved into temporary storage for about 5 weeks,
trashed and scrapped some more stuff.

after we got moved in, and settled down, started to organize,
trashed and scrapped even more...

couple times a year i do a good "cleanout" in the garage, and in my basement reloading/hobby room.

1 make 3 piles
stuff i cant live without
trash, garbage
scrap

the stuff i just "cant live without" gets smaller and smaller every time.

scrap prices (at least around here) are still high enough to make it worth the trip with a 1000 -1200 lbs.

LOL...Suburban hell..couldn't have said it better.

As for urban chickens...it just die laughing watching cities trying to come to grips with allowing a few chickens in the backyard.

What the hell is wrong with America?
