New to forum but need help!!

Hi I'm new to this forum but I need some help deciding where to put tools in my toolbox I'm planning on getting. I'm still young so I'm planning on buying a box way bigger than I need right now to accommodate my growing arsenal as I get older.. My question is how do you guys separate your tools in your drawers what do you put in each and what drawers have what tools and why.. Pictures would be great! Thanks!!

You worry too much !

Your first box should be a cardboard box or canvas bag or cheap plastic box. Crfatsman has the later 2 for between $10-$20. Yes, you will out grow it, but not as quickly as you think if you buy tools as you NEED them and not as you WANT them.

A set of 3/8" drive standard and deep, SAE and metric socket don't take that much room when mounted on rails. A couple of ratchets, a universal and a couple of extension and you are done.

Keep it simple. You have the rest of your life or until you start a job that requires tools. Buy a bigger box when you need it. (I don't need a middle box, but it would be nice !)

I still have, and frequently use, my 3/8" SAE sockets from 45 years ago !

where to put your tools? i to have given that some thought.

of course it depends on drawer sizes and layout, but heres what i did.
top drawer of bottom chest is sockets&ratchets
next drawer down is wrenches
than it goes onto pliers and adjustable to hammers to air tools
bottom drawer of top box is screwdrivers than screwdriver type stuff(stuff w/ handles)
my reasoning? the top of my bottom box is right about elbow hight to me.
i wanted the most used tools to be the easiest ones to get to.
so i just worked up and down from there of most frequently used tools.

if that was the point of your question than thats what seemed the most efficiant way to me.

Oh believe me I am grown out of all those little boxes! I have several full to the brim with tools! I guess you can say I'm addicted to buying/using tools. My school has just about every product snap on carries and after using those at school it makes me want to buy some for home. I'm planning on getting the big box before I graduate next year. Maybe graduation gift! (There's a thought)

I would agree with getting a smaller box and upgrading when your tools overflow. Use the time while you are waiting to run out of space to find a good deal on a big box. If you have a few years to wait and look around you can save thousands on the box.

The only organization tip I would add is to develop a process to consistnatly seperate metric from SAE. For me metric is on the left and SAE tools are on the right regardless of the type of tool.
