Hello All,
I'm new to this forum. Actually, it is the first forum that I have joined.
A little bit about myself...
I grew up on Long Island and still live here. Growing up, I had a neighbor who moved to the US from Germany shortly after WWII. I wasn't born until 1980 but I was in his garage with him since I was able to walk and talk.
About 15 years ago, his wife had passed, and although we did our best, there were too many memories of his home and eventually it became too difficult for him to go inside his home. As a product of his time, he and his wife never got rid of anything. My family placed him in an assisted living and took care of him. During one of my visits I had offered to go through all of his items and catalogue them for him, sell certain items, and this helped with the cost of the assisted living. This task took about 2 years as I had to take pictures of items and itemize them into binders so he could tell me what he wanted to part with. During this process, I was living in a condo with my wife and 2 year old son with another on the way. When it was time for Frank to sell his home, I purchased it from him. Frank lived on for several years thereafter as my family and I visited him 2 to 3 times a week to take him out to dinner, bring him his favorite snacks, and even snuck in a few Heinekens here an there.
Frank left me two things that he insisted I have. His tools, as he was a Volkswagen Mechanic, and his liquor. It has taken me this long to actually part with his tools, but I no longer have use for them other than sentimental value.
I found this Forum and began reading the history of Germany during his time and I find it to be fascinating. I will have many questions about the tools as I go through them and would appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to virtually meeting some of you.

Welcome to the Forum from Southwestern California.
We all have a history, some of them are far from pretty but the places we have been and the people whom we have met all helped us to become whom we are.
I too fondly remember Old Timers whom I did not appreciate in my youth.
