Wife and I just closed on our first house on Friday Sept 11th and we are excited! I get at least 1 room, the garage. It's a humble garage for sure. I measured it as 18' wide by 19' deep. As shown in the pictures, the walls are unfinished and the previous owner left shelves (which look to be fairly heavy duty) and a tire rack (for his autocross tires). I was kinda hoping he'd leave the tire rack, because I have been wanting to get into autocross for a while.
I think the best thing is the 240V outlet in the wall. I'm kinda excited about that. I know I want to add a workbench somewhere. I'm thinking on the left side (where the bump out for the dryer vent is). Maybe I should remove all the shelving and add Gladiator cabinets.
I think we still would like to park our 2 cars in there when it get ridiculously hot and/or severe weather rolls through. I have a Focus ST and she has a Mazda 3, so they're not exactly land yachts.
Here is my to do list so far (other suggestions are welcome):
*Move all my toolboxes, etc that have been at my parent's house while I was in apartments.
*Insulate the garage door with some Perma R
*Take down all existing shelving/tire rack. (I could probably sell them for a little bit.)
*Finish the drywall. Not exactly what i need to do to accomplish this. It looks like the seams are taped and finished, so would all that would be necessary is to mud the rest and texture if I want to??
*Patch opening underneath the hot water heater. I don't know if I need to make a removable panel for that. It seems like when the hot water heather was replaced, a platform was built using concrete blocks to raise the hot water heater up off the ground.
*Prime/paint walls. I know I want to do a 2 tone with a stripe in the middle. Colors not known yet, but a white and gray for sure.
*Upgrade lighting. Only a CCFL in there right now. Definitely not enough!!
That should keep me busy for a long while! Any ideas to help finish out this garage is definitely appreciated. We are excited to get the hell out of apartments and own a bit of the dream! I'll be on this site a lot now!
