New (to me) Air Compressor, Any idea what it is? Champion?

Well y'all have influenced me to buy a compressor that is way larger than I actually need, at least it was cheap.

I purchased this off of craigslist for $150, it appears to be a champion possibly an R15? It has a painted over ID tag that I need to uncover but I want to make sure it is still legible when I clean the paint off so I haven't cleaned it yet.

The tank was made in 1948 and appears to be very solid, it has a 5hp three phase motor that I plan on replacing with a baldor single phase.

Any ideas on what model this compressor is?

Look at the tank, should have a tank drain on the bottom of the tank. I have seen tanks that didn't have drain valve. What they used was a brass fitting that screwed into the side of the tank, the fitting had a barb on the end of the fitting and a weighted hose attached to the barb. The end of the hose with the weight fell to the bottom of the tank. The brass fitting had a valve to drain the water off the bottom of the tank. This is the set up I have on my tank now. It seems like a lot of monkey motion just to drain water off the bottom of the tank, when they could have installed a drain to the bottom of the tank.

I agree: Looks just like my Champion, although mine is a funky green color.

Champion still promotes the side tank drain (like my~1975 model has).

Not many people will get on their hands and knees to drain the tank regularly.

The side drain makes it much more likely to be drained occasionally, at least.
