So i was set on buying an IR ss5l5 60 gal compressor. So much so that when i came across a company that could get it in for 1099 i told them to order it in and let me know when it arrives.. That was dec 27thish.. Yesterday i get a call from a buddy about a used 60 gal that he knows of for sale.. I go down check it out... And for the price i figured why not.
It runs quiet, seemed to build pressure pretty quick, I drained a touch of water out of the bottom and it came out rust free with a touch of oil in it...
400 bucks got me the compressor, 2 hoses, the breaker, about 10 feet of wire. And for another 20 i got about 10 feet of 3/4 inch copper with a couple of fittings and clean outs on it..
Here are some pics..

it came from a wood working shop. So i gotta clean it up, new filters, and change the oil in it.
But i think im gonna like it..

edit: not is final resting place.. But as far as i took it today. I should have taken some pictures of when i was unloading it.. It was sketchy at best. lol.
Had it hanging from a home made gantry type lift.. It was interesting. but it all worked out in the end.

socapots, That one looks good to me and if you only got a touch of water and some tank residue, you are probably good to go. I bought one like that in 1985 for 750.00 You did not get hurt on this one. Plant it on the ground and you are up and running. Must have been used on the inside of the wood shop, nice paint.

hell of a deal, the extras alone would have cost you $100. I assume the two humps on the motor mean it is a two stage? You've set my new bar as for what I should pay for a used U.S. made compressor. Some people around here would ask 1000$ for that.

nope its just a single stage. 3 cylinder. Not actually sure what the humps on the motor are. Probably starting caps would be my guess.
Down there you should be able to get a new compressor for a grand or less. and a good one at that.

I have the same unit, branded by Snap-On. I like it a lot, but I haven't been able to find filter elements. Let me know if you find a source for them!

and maybe some one can help with the first question..
The wire that goes from the pressure switch to the motor is only a 12-3.. I figured something like this would have had larger wire. The breaker that it was on was a 30 amp.
I was just planning on using some wire i already have for the 30-40 foot run i will need to wire into the electrical panel. I am pretty sure its either 10 or 8-3.. Cant remember for sure.
But the question is.. With the wire from the pressure switch to the motor only being 12-3. I really shouldn't need anything bigger then that for the overall run right?
