New (to me) Craftsman box

Just picked up a 1967( I believe ) craftsman tool box from the local flea market today for 35 bucks. It came with an original owners manual from 1967 and it appears to be in pretty good shape. Wondering if I should paint the box though or if I should simply remove the rust and leave it as is. Any opinions? The top box does not match the bottom box though. It appears to be much newer.

That's nice for 35$. I sAw some at the local flea market for more than 50 for just. Carry type tool box. I'd take it all apart and repaint. But that's up to you. Good luck

Here is the picture of the original owners manual. Interestingly enough the it said that the toolbox was to last 20 years, and 47 years later here we are!

Nice score! I'd just keep it as is and use it. That top box is still available today.

The top is definitely a different era than the bottom, by a couple of decades...

The top box is late 80's early 90's based on the craftsman logo. My 1988 stack has the same one. The roller cabinet is early to middle 60's. In the late 60's they shifted the logo to the other side. There is a date stamp some where on the cabinet. Check on the top. It shows month and year.

I just found a matching two drawer top box near me a couple of weeks back. The guy only wanted $30 so I jumped on it. It is from 1965. I have also been debating which way to go with the box. Repaint or not. I also thought about just buffing out the rust with some steel wool and shooting it with some clear. That will offer some protection while keeping the original look.
