-Manufacturers back in those days assumed that anyone smart enough to operate a drill press, was also smart enough to not try to grab a moving belt. :D

Doc.

Those days, eh? All the presses we have have warning stickers all over them.

Darwin had a point.

The paint looks to be in great condition, I'd just clean it up and use it.

oh yea i don't think I'll be painting now that i had time to look it over but rehabing the bare metal parts will be important and lubing the thing up as well. i might need to score some parts some how, the search begins. any ideas for cleaning up the table (which has no marks ) and the base ?

Nice piece, it's got great patina, and good mojo.
I vote no repaint. Clean it up to whatever degree you choose, and use it.
Great piece of history there.

I would clean up the table and base with a Random orbit sander with a fine paper on it dry, then move to a 3M scotch brite pad with some WD 40 or Paint thinner as a lube.
Just keep the sander flat and keep it moving.
What will the DP be used for?
If metal, protect with oil or WD 40.
If wood, protect with paste wax or Top coat or bi-shield.
Thanks,
Tony

We had the floor model at work, someone put wire mesh around the belt to make it
OSHA corect. The great think about that press, the head slides on the column so
your table can be fixed in one place.
