I just picked up a large 16 speed Drill Press off CL. It needs a little work, I started cleaning it up today. I was wondering if anyone knows the make and model of it. Its has a starting issue and needs a little help to get going. I can turn the chuck by hand and turn the motor with almost no resistance so I don't believe its a binding or bearing problem, But I could be wrong it is a bit noisy. I will have to make another video with the radio off.

I took a few pics of it and also a video of the problem.

Here is the video

Any info at all would be great. I assume its a knockoff unit being made in China, If so does anyone know what it could be a knockoff of, and would I be able to use its parts such as bearings?

Most all the Chicom stuff uses standard bearings. Just take them to the bearing supply house and they'll have them on hand.

Thanks for the reply's I checked out the capacitor, Its burnt out So that should be an easy fix. I searched the model number before I picked it up but could not find an exact match. Also good to know I plan I greasing the bearings first and see how that does before I replace them.

A few pics of the capacitor

Anyone recommend a quality capacitor. I have found a few made in the US but cant find any with the same ratings. How close do the UF ratings need to be to the original?

Here are two I'm looking at.

Capacitor SC0062 - 88-106 mfd 220-250 V VAC Volt 88-106 uf

Capacitor SC0065 - 108-130 mfd 220-250 V VAC

I'd stick with exactly the same ratings, but that's just me. I had a capacitor go bad in my compressor last summer. I just went on eBay and did a search with the specs off of the capacitor. I think it was 10 or 15 bucks shipped to the door.

If you get desperate northern tools used to sell that unit and in the past has stocked spare parts. I have had that exact drill press in my shop on the wood working side of the shop for the last 10+ years. Only thing I did was replace the chuck and install a bigger table with a fence on it. I think you will find it to be a good press overtime.
