New (to me) House in Florida

Hey guys,

I've been looking through the forums for sometime now. I originally came to the forums because of the bunker project that was linked on svtperformance.com.

Anyway...I just moved to florida and have put an offer in on a house. The house needs a little work, but I like it quite a bit. The only part that has me a little concerned is the garage. It has been converted into a bedroom. The garage door has been taken down and framed in. I don't have any cars I have to park in the garage right away and would like to do the garage the right way the first time.

I'll take any and all suggestions on how to tear down the wall and put a door in and maybe things you would do to your garage if you could start from scratch.

2 car garage, inside walls and ceiling are drywalled with a concrete floor.

Welcome to GJ and welcome to Florida.

Hate it when the garage is re-allocated to bedroom use. It CAN be fixed. But, we need a little more info and a few pix and we can guide you in the right direction. Most of the houses here are built from CMU (concrete block) and stucco. Many times the door is left in and a drywall partition is installed just inside it. Since yours was removed, it may have been filled in with CMU or a wood framed wall with stucco or other exterior finish. The good part is that you will still have a header over the door opening that will allow you to remove the infill and recapture the garage!

Can you tell how the wall was built? Is there electric on that wall?
