Just picked up my first Snap On cabinet. KR1000, the deep drawers are awesome. Can get a ton of tools in there and even have room to buy more :bounce:

Came with the Matco top box as well.

Question though - best tips for a general cleanup? It’s in pretty good shape. Is soap and water ok without rust issues? Best way to clean inside the drawers? Just a rag and water? It definitely doesn’t need a full overhaul and the Matco box needs a deeper cleaning, just trying to figure out the best way to go.

Thanks!

Soap and water is a good start. It's always best to begin with mild cleansers and only work up to harsher methods if they're necessary. Treat it like a car that needs detailing, the same procedures apply.

When I would clean mine at the shop I would just spray a rag with penetrant and wipe it down. That removed a lot of old, crusty grime.

I got a nice old stack two weeks ago, they were dirty, but in good shape otherwise. I pulled all the drawers out, put a pallet on the driveway, set the drawers on it and pressure washed them inside and out. Did the same for the cabinets, let them all dry thoroughly in the sun, and then used turpentine on the oily/tarry stains that were left. Came out looking excellent. Oiled the slides and put it all back together. Start to finish, maybe an hour of labor.

Jumping in here for future notes haha just did a deal on a kr1000 and kr1010 combo today, biggest question is how do you get the drawer out on these? They appear to be bolted in to the slides and no release mechanism.

Thanks for all the tips. Definitely going to try and get the drawers out and washed down as they are pretty greasy inside.

BassXB - I believe there are 2 screws on each drawer you have to take out so the drawers come out. Nice box with the stainless top!

I'd clean the drawers out with Dawn and warm water. After cleaning and drying, use a rag or paper towels, spray WD-40 on the inside of the drawer and wipe down good.

Nice box and it should clean up real good. I'd do the following:

1. Clean it as best you can with hot water, Dawn and use a blue (non scratching) 3M scotch brite pad.
2. Dry it thoroughly
3. Order a matching red touch up paint pen from SO. Touch up scratches, nicks, chips, etc.
4. Now wax it with the automotive wax of your choice.
5. Re-line all the drawers with Nu Source drawer liner.
6. Lubricate the slides if needed.
7. See if the casters have grease fittings and if so, give them a squirt.

Davefr. Do you know the paint code for these boxes, if heard snapon discontinued the paint for them.

I don't think these older boxes had a paint code label. Here's the P/N for the touch up paint.

It looks like it crosses to Ditzler 73504
