Picked up this riveter for the garage. About 2000#. It's made to run on steam, but I think air will work just as well.

Now to find a place to put it.

Dude...I love working with solid rivets and that looks like the ultimate riveter.

Are there any manufacturer's marks on it? Brand/model, etc.?

If you cannot get it to run on air, you might consider a hydraulic or air-over-hydraulic cylinder.

Way cool! Looking forward to seeing what you do with that.

Re: New to me riviter

Haven’t found any brand markings. Perhaps when I get it all cleaned up I will find some. Defiantly nothing cast in raised letters. Hoping for something depressed or stamped. I really want to make what is there work, it just looks sooooo cool.

I’m trying to get away from setting rivets in my pressbrake, it’s really awkward most of the time.

Here’s a picture of the toggle mechanism along with one of my “drive by” kitties.

With a couple of added bit on the "business end" that could become a power hammer for forging I'd think?

Man, what in heck are you making with rivits that big?

OK...SEE...NOW you have to tell me more about this (with pictures, please!) Details, Details, Details...

I agree totally...I'd love to see it work 'as is.' Just thinking out loud about some other options. I've got a 20-ton air-over-hydraulic jack, which is just waiting for me to find the right shop press frame for it.

(Oh, BTW, I like the way you think...definitely looking to forward to seeing where this is going)

I usually rivet cross members and brackets to frames for friends restoring or repairing vehicles or farm equipment. 7/16" to 3/4" rivets mostly.

The riveter swivels on the suspension bracket so it can be used in a vertical or horizontal position. I threw a dollar bill on it to give you a reference for the size.

Off to get some fittings so I can get air to it. The inlet is 1-1/2" pipe.

Thanks to the Mod. who fixed the spelling in the title for me. I couldn’t figure out how to do that.

Got the air hooked up and here it is with the ram extended. The stroke is about 2”. Measured 10 tons force mid stroke at 100 psi.

Here’s a close up of the adjuster:

And the toggle mechanism extended and retracted to show how it works.

Now it’s time to disassemble, clean and paint.

My relatively tiny riveters...

View media item 11624
...will do 6000 pounds of pressure (? 3 tons ? Not sure if that equates directly). I know some models similar to these will do 12000 pounds of pressure. I suspect that above 1/4", going up even small sizes in rivets increases the force needed exponentially.

I'd love to see what yours will do when it gets all the air it needs (Do you use the same sort of compressor they use for jackhammers? I suspect you need something that big.)

Definitely looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with this!
