New-to-me tools: Raiding dad's stuff

About a year and a half ago, my father passed away unexpectedly. Out of his tools, I put together a box of "household" stuff for Mom to use if needed... the rest of it has been pretty much fair game and I've come home with an armload each time I go visit. Here's the haul from the most recent trip home:

Husky 1/2" speeder
Craftsman B.F.H.
B&D bench grinder / sander
B&D air angle grinder (not working)

not pictured:
about 2/3 of a Blue-Point precision tap/die set in a wooden case

This is just the most recent of numerous trips home... I've also gotten a welder, angle grinder, propane torches, drill press, other taps/dies, etc. In a way, it feels really weird to be taking Dad's stuff knowing I'm not bringing them back. If he was still around, he'd blow a gasket if I was taking his tools and not returning them. But with him gone, I feel sure he'd be happy for me to take whatever I want.

Trying to get the air angle grinder apart to see why it doesn't work... four bolts around the outside, back cover comes off (appears to have a sort of governor inside it). Other side cover rotates freely, but won't pull loose. Any ideas?

I like that Craftsman BFH!! Idk about the air grinder, have you removed the part that holds the discs on?

There's a lot of stuff to go through, I was looking for something to lube the hood latch on Mom's truck when I found that hammer in the garage. I've been wanting one about like it. Already got a project for it (straightening a bent brush guard for my truck).

As to the grinder... not sure what you mean by "the part that holds the discs"... the disc itself will easily come off. Not sure what's holding that side of the housing together - I wonder if the governor (on the other side) has to come apart first....

Before taking the air grinder apart, have you tried some air tool oil or some ATF and rotating it by hand to get the lube spread out?
When you rotate by hand, does the air motor "putt putt" a bit?

It might be all in the trigger valve.

Ah hah! Got it apart. Found the governor does reverse-thread off, then I turned the front plate 45 degrees so the bolt holes didn't line up, then used the bolts like a punch to push the front off. Vanes were gummed up and stuck fully inwards. Cleaned up the airflow innards a bit and started putting it together... but no testing it tonight. Compressor's out of air and I'm not turning it on this late (it's after 2am and I'm in a townhouse!).

Air motor works now, but it's slow and sometimes doesn't start on its own... also, air consumption is way less than I'd expect. I pulled the valve apart and put some air to the thing, so I know there's plenty of air getting TO the valve... valve function feels normal. I'm thinking something in the speed regulator is out of whack and not allowing the full charge of air through... it sounds mighty quiet if I open the valve with it taken apart. Only fastener I see on the regulator is a 1 1/16" hex "plate" under a spring... tried putting an open end wrench on it, but this "plate" is so thin, the wrench slips right off. Can't use a big flare wrench or box end, because there's other **** on top of it in the way. Crudmuffins. I'll futz around with it later.
