I keep seeing guys get new vises on here so after seeing this one on the local CL, I had to get in on the act and get a weekend project to work on. It is in fairly good shape and is just dirty from sitting the past 6 years.

If I use mjozefow's rule of thumb of $1 per pound, I broke even at $150 for a 160 pound+/- vise but the guy did throw in the base for it. The base is a little rough but once I weld up a few holes in the pipe stand, clean up the vise and paint the base, it should be OK to work with.

It is a little stiff but it has been sitting for 6 years and the temp were in the teens today. Can't wait to get it cleaned and lubed.

It has "9-600" on the other side and what appears to be a model number of "101062" on this side.

Made at the park in Illinois

The jaws appear to be bolted from the back.

Anyone out there know if this is the forefather of a 600S machinist vise? One thing is for sure, I don't think I need a bigger vise. More vises yes, but I bigger??? Well, maybe in a month or two.....

Just got back in from pulling it apart to check the date on the keyway. It's stamped "670" so I assume that is June, 1970. I was thinking it was an older one but this vise is just a kid... It's younger than I am.
