So, this weekend I scored a Walker Turner drill press for what I believe was a steal. It runs, but needs some work. The quill spring needs replaced, and it needs a new switch. The chuck is in good shape, and like I said it runs. Sure, it needs some cleaning up, but that's nothing more than a project, and I've got time and opportunity. It appears to have been green originally, and subsequently repainted. There is a tag on the side that is stamped USAAF, which I assume is for the air force. All together I'm stoked. My plan is to clean it up, and restore it over time, all the while enjoying and using it for whatever I need.

That said, I'm relatively unsure exactly what I have. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If the tag is USAAF that's US Army Air Force. The US Air Force became a separate branch on September 18th 1947 so your drill press would pre-date that. Nice find!

That's awesome news. I love vintage stuff, so this will be the crown jewel of what I have so far!

Probably a model DP 900 variant or the one before it. Nice to have the original motor too. There is an extenive thread on another forum that documents the complete restoration of a DP 900 with lots of good photos. I'm not sure if its ok to post a link here to another forum or not. Send me a PM if you want it.

Looks like a similar time of mfg., early 40's. You also have the original base and table, I changed mine out from an old Rockwell unit. My drill press has the intermediate pulley set-up also with non original paint job. Old iron is great, has run well for me for over 30 years....good luck with yours...:beer:
