I just picked this up off of craigslist- The guy who sold it to me said it was originally being used to assemble power steering pumps for GM. The crossbar that is supposed to stabilize the bench is slotted into place and as a result there is a little wobble. Does anyone else have a bench constructed this way and if so do they have any suggestions to how to make it more rigid? In the short term I have a bunch of clamps on it, which seems to help. The legs are all 13 gauge steel.

I've never used one like it, but I'm having trouble seeing what crossbar is slotted and not stabilizing the bench. If you are referring the the cross members under the bench I think the way to reinforce them is to put X braces at the back of the legs. Could be flat metal running from the tom of one leg to the bottom of the other. Pipe with an attaching tab on each end would also work. Generally X braces are stronger if they are joined at the center of the X. Nice looking bench anyway.
