Hi everyone. I've posted a couple times but haven't taken the time to introduce myself. I'm a car guy in New Jersey. I have what would appear to be a pretty big garage and yet I'm adding on to it. People think I'm crazy. But you know how that goes. You can never have enough garage!
Actually, my garage built by the previous owner has a substantial foot print (50ft x 50ft). However, the garage was built primarily to house and indoor pool they put in to exercise their son who was a quadriplegic. The garage portion is actually 25 x 50. I lose space to a pool utility room built into the garage area. I also have 2nd floor storage above which means a 9ft ceiling supported by a very large I-beam that is below that ceiling. Needless to say, that means no lift!
To get around this problem, I am going to add on to the existing structure. I plan on extending a portion of the garage out 12 feet. This will give me 24 feet outside of the low hanging beam. Removing the ceiling in this area will open up a shed roof that gives me just what I need in terms of space. I am in the planning stage and hope to start construction toward the end of March, depending on the weather here in NJ.
This has been a challenge. Along with cars that really don't pose too much of a problem, I have two vintage trucks that sit fairly high. This site has been very helpful in figuring out how to overcome some of the challenges including the lift and follow-the-roof track systems.
Looking for lots of help along the way.
Thanks in advance.
