Hello, I just came across your forum via Google trying to research a couple old tools I bought at a yard sale. I guess I am a tool collector of sorts. I sell stuff on ebay and always buy old tools at sales and flea markets when they are cheap enough but never considered myself a collector of tools by any means but Ive bought alot of 50's and newer Snap-On and SK, Mac, Bonney stuff from tag sales over the years and once in a while come across odd stuff I sell on ebay so I can buy more stuff that I have a use for. This weekend I got clean early Snap-On #7 ratchet and a Craftsman 3/8 combination wrench with a open end a Swivel Socket end. And numerous other Snap and SK & Mac Ratchets extensions and sockets. Heck even got a brand new condition Echo hedge trimmer for $5. It looks like it was used once and then the gas was drained and stored inside. I live in a area (between New Britain and Bristol CT) that was very industrialized at one time so there is alot of old timers that worked at P&W, Stanley, Sessions clock company and numerous other industries in the area. Im not to picky on sockets I use but i really prefer older Snap-On ratchets. ,Pete

Yeah, be careful. These guys are the devil . Just when I thought I had every tool I'd ever need in my lifetime, their tempting ways got me to buy $165.00 in GearWrenches in the last month. And it won't stop there. If you're not strong, it'll happen to you too.

On the plus side, you'll find out the best deals and tool evaluations around. :lol_hitti Welcome to the board.

So, do you live near where "New Britain Machine Co." made their tools? Does that area have a history of making tools; it must be all gone now..... sad.. sniff..

heres the odd ball Craftsman combination wrench. After poking around on here I linked to another page with The Craftsman catalogs in pdf format and it was in the 1960 catalog.

I also got a bunch of other tools but these where the stand out oddballs.

Also yes New Britain, CT is where they made New Britain tools along with Stanley hand tools. So the tool picking can be good sometimes around here. BTW if you looking for anything in paticular made by New Britain let me know the stuff is everywhere around here and I usually pass on it unless it very unusual or just a nice ratchet.

Thats a nice ratchet. Unfortunately, the drive plug is not a snap on. Its a type that was used by several companies, and at one time had 2 pinches at the center point to keep it from pushing through a ratchet of this style when pushing on a socket. The pinches have been filed away, but you can see a bit of evidence of them. I had one that came in a tool lot once, it was stamped with the Hinsdale logo.

The original snap on plug would have a flange at the top to keep it from pushing through. Holding the flange down while pushing on a socket stopped the drive plug from pushing out.

New to the forum, need some info please!

Gentlemen,

A family member recently passed, and I have found myself with a dozen milk crates full of tools in my possession. I've got everything from Vintage Snapon, Mac, JCPenney, Sears, Craftsman, Proto, Williams, Challenger, Blackhawk, you name it. Items range from Proto Torque Wrenches and work their way down. Any ideas on forums or online sites where I can find folks that are interested in buying some classics? I can be reached here, or via my username plus yahoo.com Thanks!
