If you are first starting out, keep the box until it is maxed out. Right now you will have better things to spend money. A triple bay with a side box is big even if it is only 24" deep. Unless you buy super huge box, the gain will not be worth the cost. Unless your box gets beat to ****, it won't drop a whole lot in price. Tools make money, not a big empty $12,000 tool box. Now if found a screaming deal on a big used box, that is different. Big boxes are not the uncommon used as they where a few years ago. I bet your overall storage is more then my KRL 1022 double. Just my two cents.

buy tools, there are too many people in my shop that regret buying $10k boxes, everyone if they had to do it again would rather have bought their own scan tools, specialty tools and other non-tool box related stuff.

there is nothing a $2000 72" toolbox can't do that a $10000 mac will.

One thing I want to add. What kind of diesel tech, truck or ag/const equipment are you? If your going to work in the ag or const fields, and have any interest in road work, I would maybe suggest adding road chest then buying a whole new box. Road work is not for everbody, but if you like getting out of the shop, it is fun.

I finished up school and bought a new classic 78 and from firsthand experience Ill tell you its not fun paying for tools and a tool box every week. Its about 400 bucks a month I could think of better things to spend it on. 50 a week for box and 50 a week for tools. If your maxed out with a triple bank and a side box maybe adding a top is cheaper than buying a whole new setup.

see thats thing at my shop we have a service truck with every tool well need provided for us wen a roadcall comes in. my box is maxed out but i dont like the mac box. the way the drawer detents open and close. my socket drawer get used the most and it open up like ****. i asked the mac guy and he said it needs to be broken in. to buy a top box is 2500 with my discount. but i figured i can sell my box and get a new snapon box with a discount for roughly the same price.

i agree about tools as well but i have alot of tools.

I don't think you can get a discount on a KRL. I think mac will give you a discount on bigger boxes and Matco might too.
