Well for the last year or so I have been looking for some older Snapon, Mac, Matco boxes to fix up. And in the last week I have gotten 4 to redo. Two Matcos, A Mac and a Snapon. This should keep me busy redoing them for a few days. Might take pictures as I do the job. But its going to be a pretty quick job. Nice but not show room new. But right now my back hurts from moving them from my truck to my shop so the work on redoing them will have to wait :)

Unless you're really going to do a superficial job redoing those, or have access to really nice facilities, those will take you a little longer than a few days! :)

Those are quality boxes, you picked up some good ones. I know a lot of people are looking for those intermediate Mac boxes. What year is the Snap On chest?

Patrick, Take your time and do a just job on them. My Mac chest would be at home on top of that Mac roller. Could you PM me a price please.

Thanks, JASTECH & Son

Is that a kr56? If so, I have one awaiting restoration as well. Looks like you have a lot better thing to start with than I do. Lol.

Mine is missing the front, so i'll probably going to do a black finish with an oak front on it with snapon burned into it. Hopefully it'll look decent.

(Here are answers to I think all questions and comments in one. )

Ya this is going to be a decent project. But I should be able to make them look nice again. :)

You could just go ahead and send that mac top box to me haha.

Would like to find a matching bottom box for the snapon like the one you have. To bad we are all so far apart.

Not sure of the model need to look on it have not had a chance yet.

I will try and post pictures if I remember this time.

Any way huge swap meet this weekend so might head up there and see if I can find a top box or two that matches. Probably be way to high but might go check anyway.

I just bought the same Mac except without the side table. It was $200 but in really good shape. Made in '77. Also have the Snap On top box that I picked up with the middle and roller for $340 filled with tools. I couldn't get it out of the house fast enough.

Sounds like a nice setup. I wish these would have been nicer but I got them doing some trading so in real money I have about $100 in them. And about $300 in trade value. Also wish I could find a box fool of good tools :)

Either way, it's a steal deal. Those older Matco/MAC/Cornwell boxes are in every way the equal of the older Snap-on.

It's good both your rollers have the full drawer set. I have a couple of boxes with the open bin at the bottom and that space is just a junk collector.

I agree I like how solid these boxes are. And I also like you do not like the ones with open spaces at the bottom. :)

I am jealous. Those are all awesome boxes guys. I recently picked up a MAC chest with dreams of a restoration but decided to switch gears when some Vidmars came into my life. If my chest will make a complete set for anyone, just let me know. It is stamped #507, "Made in USA 73". Otherwise, I will just have to live out my restoration fantasies through this thread.

Looking great, can you share more info on your restoration technique-- did you go to bare metal, what kind of primer/paint did you use, etc.

They look a little better than in real life but they are not bad. What I did on these was sand down the paint where it was still good. But the dents I had to bondo I sanded to bare metal. Other places that were bare metal without bondo I used etching primer on. And I also used filler primer where needed in some places. For a car it would not be a good paint job. But its good enough for these boxes. The Matcowas really pretty strait so it turned out the best. THe Mac one was rougher and so its just OK. I could have made it perfect but I didnt have the time to do it perfectly. Or to be honest the patience I really do not like doing autobody work. :)
