New Tool Box, What To Buy?

I am going to get a new 56" tool box combo. I have been considering the Harbor Freight & Masterforce boxes (Likely getting the HF unit).

Before I pull the trigger, I am wondering if there is any other brand to consider that is around the same price point and quality?

Hit the buy sells. Might find a cheap Snap-on box. Personally I got a 42 kobalt box

Both HF and Masterforce boxes are good. Personally, I lean towards the masterforce as its 2in deeper and I dont like the latches on the HF. I would recommend looking closely at the latching system on both boxes and also the layout. My biggest regret about the box I purchased is the drawer sizes/layout.

I really like the husky industrial series. I bought a ($900) 42" international shd which is pretty nice in that every drawer is dual 120lb slides and 22" deep.

The rs pro tool box was my first choice but Sears having crazy sales on the shd tool boxes I couldn't resist.

Tool vault boxes also look good and are a brand I would consider.

Tca tool boxes from Canada are another choice depending on your location. Tca have 220 lb slides. And are probably the strongest boxes made out side of truck or industrial brands.

Top and bottom 42" tca is 1200$ when I priced them out. They had a Rep as a gj member a couple years ago.

Do note they got 2 manufacturers for the HF and one is better so be sure read up on that before committing to anything .
I like the masterforce for build and drawer latch system but the drawer layout poor and 6 wheels on the 56" along with the 50/50 drawer split cheap way of doing it .

i bought the 56" husky with the black texture and wish I would have went with extreme or HF as the husky box is already having trouble with the full length drawer being 95% full

I like the Harbor freight boxes but their latches annoy me, I much prefer detents. Personally I'd only buy a new box if I had no other choice. I don't know your area but usually there are all kinds for sale in s similar price range

One version has removable latches and a few have rigged up magnet setups to make their own detent setup

The one with beefier looking latches that screwed on has detents as well .
The one with riveted latches has no detents .
Choose a HF box wisely and with research as one factory version massive jump in quality .

I have a masterforce, I bought it specifically over the harbor freight because I think the latches and drawers operate better. I also did not like red, which was the only HF color choice at the time. The drawer layout is a bit different than what I was used to, but Ive gotten used to it.

I have the Milwaukee 61" bench with pegboard that I got with that 1/2 price glitch on the Home Depot website. It was a good price but I'm just not happy with it. The Husky boxes are made by the same company. The drawers can't really handle the rated 100 lb weight capacity and are generally hard to operate. My top right drawer has about 50 lbs of tools in it and is a pain to open. The slides are attached with rivets only and are not as well made as either a HF, Masterforce or Homak. I'm selling it today to a guy from work. I'd really like to get a RS Pro from that NAPA sale but I'll probably end up with another 56" HF because I have about $300.00 worth of HF gift cards.
