Very Nice box My following statement is only meant for a few people and not at every one.


Don't let any others tell you they worked out of a little box for years and did any more then an oil change or borrowed tools from the guys who bought the big box's to do the rest I see them every day 30 years with a hand box my ***.

When do we get to see the inside all done up??

yep.......those guy's are too cheap to buy what they need and are using other tech's "investment" into thier career. worked with alot of them "hey can i borrow your (insert tool here)" guy's......

I'm not ashamed to admit that i've got 10k invested in my box combo. I've been wrenching in one form or another for 20 years, and would trade up as size was needed. This is my last box, other than adding the other side cabinet one day.

I can remember guys at the dealership belittling me when my new box arrived several years ago...coincedently, I was always the one that they asked to borrow something from.

I take pride in my tools. I wouldn't go and get my hair cut by some skanky ol' hag with rusty scissors, nor would I see a dentist with rotten teeth.

Boxes are never big enough! Every time I buy another, bigger box, I say, "that's it. I'll never need anything bigger." I always end up needing more space. I'm looking at side cabs now!

It's not my thing either, but he wanted it and got a pretty good deal compared to new. He's happy, it's his money, case closed.

I have to chime in on the "high-end toolboxes are too expensive" comments. I'm fairly new to the forum but I'm surprised at how many folks keep putting down high end boxes. I suspect it's really jealousy talking, but what do I know?

The high-end market for everything from vehicles, to toolboxes, to watches, is always more expensive than the cheap stuff. Some people find it worth the money for them, and other people choose to spend their money elsewhere. For people who really want what they think is the best, they'll pay for it. For high-end toolboxes, the market seems to support the price, so, by definition, they are not "too expensive." Too costly for some people? Sure, and that's fine. Those people don't have to buy them.

Speaking as someone who has never had (but hopefully will some day) a high-end SO box, I actually find tools and toolboxes some of the most worthwhile expenditures, especially by people who make their living with them. If you spend all of your time making a living working out of a toolbox, it makes some sense to have a toolbox that you think is the best one you can have (provided you can afford it).

On this forum I've seen tremendous graciousness toward new young mechanics just getting their first beat-up old box. People are happy for them, appreciate what it takes to get started, and wish them happiness in their purchases. The same graciousness should extend to the folks are similarly excited about their new toolbox acquisition. They're happy, I'm happy for them.

And once in a while, someone will get in over their head in their purchases...and some of us will get deals on CL.

The original poster seems to have gotten a good deal on a nice box. Congratulations, and I hope you enjoy it.

I almost jumped the gun a week earlier on a blue one for a bit more money, and I'm glad I held off. I'm not the tallest guy in the world, so the 7023 may be better if (when) I end up getting a top box some day.

I have the same box as you as KRL 7023, let me say its by far one of the best things I have ever purchased in my life, ya moving it ***** but the thing is awsome and its perfect height. Im 6'1 and I can work on top of it perfectly with out hurting my back or anything.

As far as the KRL1023, a friend of mine has one and its next to impossible to work on top of unless your around 6'5, he recently put a top box on, and I think its stupid how he cant even see whats in the top drawers.

Ill be adding 2 side lockers and a hutch soon.

I bought a new tool box on Tuesday, and just now got pictures of it. It is a KRL7023 bought brand new from the "scratch and dent closeout" truck. I traded my box ($2900) and $2900 for the box. It has one scratch about an inch long on it and one of the handles has a very small ding in it. So far I am very impressed, and have about 5 empty drawers. More tools!

i dont think green woulda been my 1st color choice, but ya never know sometimes. ive been working in heavy equipment dealerships for 25 years, early on most guys had a small(ish) box, equipment was simpler back then
along came more sophisticated hyd systems, computer controls, and all of a sudden the need for more specialized tools, more tools meant more and/or bigger boxes. last dealership i worked at, there were 2 of us that worked in a rebuild room. the room was clean , well lit and organized. any time we had visitors they always brought them back for a shop tour. the highlight was bringing them through the rebiuld room. 75% of the people that walked in that room asked "how many guys work in here?"
from the tool boxes it looks like 5 or 6 guys, i had my snapon kr550/555/matching side box, another kr555, 3 kr537(?) side boxes,anotehr 8 drawer snapon side and a 26" snapon roller cab, my partner had 2 sets of matco 900's with 2 side boxes, and a craftsman workstation top and bottom. we both had service carts that we worked off of, plus misc special tools set up on carts for rebuilding water pumps, ect.
i guess my point is, they were always impressed by tyhe amount of tools it took to do the jobs we did, and they could justify to themselves about paying the labor rates they did.
even now in my service truck, i could "get by" with a LOT less tools than i carry, i could easily complete 85% of my work with a handful of tools. i wouldnt want to be that customer standing there watching a "tech" scratch his head trying to figure out how to make a repair, because he didnt have the proper tools

You'll notice the empty drawers are the same drawer, its just an empty drawer, not interesting. I still have some arranging to do. I think I can consolidate measuring/screwdrivers/hammers in some way. Cheers!

I was talking to an old Porsche mechanic who told me that when he came to this country in '65 or so, he couldn't believe how large the tool boxes were then compared to what the mechanics were using in Germany. He said that with the exception of the most recent cars, he still believes he can fix almost anything with the small box of tools (and the impact gun) that he brought over in '65.

I love that size and the drawer layout - I'm not a professional but I actually think I could probably fill most of that up - but the difference is I wouldn't need a top or intermediate chest like I'm currently using on my 30" Cman and I could actually get all of my stuff into it and still be able to see it when opened a drawer.

I realize high end boxes aren't for everyone, but I can understand it for a professional. I could never justify it for home use (nor would my wife allow me to justify it) but for you pros I can bet having a reliable box where you know the slides will still be silky smooth a decade from now after being opened and closed thousands upon thousands of times is well worth the initial cost.

You don't hang a Monet in a trailer house, so why store $20k worth of high end tools in a $400 box? I guess spending $5k or $6k on a box doesn't really shock me when a pro is the one making the purchase.

But what does shock me about this thread is how many people like green. I'll just say it wouldn't be my first choice... or second, or third... lol. I'm in agreement that red is far too common, but I'd probably stick with silver or grey or black - I'm just not much for flashy colors I guess, but we can't all like the same things otherwise boxes would only come in one color right?

I believe it. Seems like they just do with less over there. Just look at the size of the Hazet cart that many seem to use there and covet here.
