If it's being destroyed it's probably being recalled? Defective drawer locks maybe? :dunno:

Its cheap and a lot for the money and might even be short enough to be able to work from the top box. Great for diy and storage. It isn't perfect but it isn't 5 grand either.

I didn't see any of them at my local Costco yesterday, so they indeed seem to be out of the stores...

This box had their house Kirkland Signature name on it, something they take great pride in.

Wonder what the issue was? Were they a tip-over risk? Where there pinch/cut hazards? With them being removed from sale but not recalled from the market, one might think it was from something other than consumer safety.

Saw this chest at one of our local Costcos today. I was actually very impressed with it. The powder coating feels very thick and I think it should stand up pretty well. The top chest is actually 2lbs heavier than the Harbor Freight one and has fewer drawers, so it should be slightly more substantial. The lower cabinet was locked, but I had the opportunity to check out the top chest and it felt very nice. I wish it had more drawers and less of the filler features, but I'm giving this set some serious thought. For the money, I haven't seen anything that I would say definitely beats this. Was hoping someone may have picked it up and had some input. May take the plunge next week. Worst case scenario? It'll go back to Costco.

The original ones with the Hammerhead badge were the dogs ********, quality has gone down from that high point ever since.

I just found one of these pristine at a garage sale and was happy to give 600.00 for it

What's the price? The door in the top box is useless.

That door reminds new of a safe. If the rest of your box is unlocked during workday I could put my wallet, valuables, ring, cash etc. I'm sure some people like it.

That said I do not like the rough paint, I'd prefer the red Hf box easily for that reason alone. HF has had the glossy red for a few years now, I wish they would make one or two more colors, black, blue, maybe yellow. They did this I bet sales would double in their first 2 quarters.

Wait are we still talking about that brown box w/ textured paint? I literally saw one less than a week ago.

I just bought the box and so far so good. That top cabinet I am using for stand up fluid items like paint, brake fluid etc... then I lock it so no matter what my 4 yr old son can't get into it while my back is turned as he helps me work on stuff! LOL :willy_nil

Just a thought of a way to make it worth it. I shopped around for same price range option and the gauge of steel is pretty stout good finish too for bumps against things and does not come off my son helped me test that already too! LOL :lol_hitti

HF box was more and more expansion options but the steel seemed much thinner and more tin like but hard to tell for sure without measuring it.

As for the clip drawer release it really easy to use and they are standing up to use good and it keeps my little guy from opening all of them for now to take out everything.

I love this box! I would recommend it to anyone in the auto industry. Built like a tank.

With all due respect, are you actually in the auto repair industry?

Saturday I went to make a delivery to a shop and there was a young man just starting out wrenching whose parents bought him the Costco box set. For a beginner the Costco box will do, as he is.

Soon that box will be filled up and he will be forced to upgrade.

BTW I saw 4 more of these boxes at my local Costco yesterday

$100 off last week in KC area, $499 retail. Wouldn't be bad at all. Seems heavier than most. I would want some shallow drawers but nobody adds them much unless you spend big money.

While the door seems unusual, the first thought that came to my mind was to use it as a place to store penetrating oils (PB Blaster, etc...), other aerosols and/or cleaning products. Having the product right there within arms reach would be better than having to bend over and reach down into the lowest deep drawer. Of course that is moot if you store your cleaners and aerosols on the workbench or on a shelf.

What he said! My father in law and best friend both have this box and neither had any trouble filling the cabinet. My friend uses it like a flamable a cabinet.
