New tool boxes installed for my garage makover

After the last two years of using my single 52" Husky toolbox that I had outgrown, I figured it was finally time to 'upgrade'. My fiance and I just purchased our first home a couple months ago, and I am getting the garage close to how I envisioned it when we moved in.

I originally wanted to do New Age Pro Series cabinets, but was having a hell of a time justifying the price to myself, and I figure I'd have buyer's remorse for a long time if I actually dropped $5k on garage cabinets.

I had always been intrigued by different Costco boxes, mainly because of the price point. After reading as many reviews as I could, and seeing them go on sale for $320 each (normally $400), I was sold. I went down and picked 4 of them up.

My first thoughts after unpacking them were very positive. I mounted all 4 on the wall for a cleaner look and stability. I also HATE having a crack behind the bench and wall. The back of them sits on a 6" concrete footer that goes around the garage. I removed all the drawers in every cabinet so I could put lag bolts in the back. It took some time lining everything up and hitting the studs, but I am extremely pleased!

As I moved tools from my Husky box to the new boxes, I was very happy with the quality of new ones. The slides are silky smooth, the catches are soft, definite quality over the Husky boxes. Butcher block is thick, no comparison to the Husky at all. Plus, they came with pre-cut drawer liners which was a huge plus!

I spoke with the manufacturer on the phone, and they are sending me another butcher block top so I can spread the gap between the two on the left, making a desk.

I am in the process of painting the garage, so it is not complete yet!

Anyway, here are a few before and after pictures. Enjoy!

I highly recommend these boxes if you're in the market! For the price, much better than Husky, Kobalt, or Craftsman. Obviously you won't get the fit and finish of a high end box though, so don't expect it!

Looks great..

How would you compare the quality to the harbor freight 42" roller?

Thank you.

Similar quality of slides and metal thickness. I believe both are nicer than Husky and Kobalt. The biggest complaint of the Costco vs. the HF 42" is the lack of shallow drawers. If you mostly do automobile work and plan on only getting one box, the HF box has more shallow drawers. I knew I would be getting multiple boxes, so that was not an issue for me.

Those look good, your garage is turning out nice!

My hesitation with mounting the boxes on the wall is the boxes' frame work is designed to be supported from the bottom via the wheels. Maybe this is a non issue?

Was thinking the same about support. Maybe a hidden wooden structure underneath the front edge painted black that would support the front of them?

That's a nice looking Garage you have there. How does the racetrack flooring clean up after a oil spill or something similar?

I would make some adjustable feet for the front otherwise that looks real good, I like the clean look.

Jet: sorry, but i agree with the others that once you get those boxes loaded that is a lot of weight and the back pane's metal might give out. even attaching the casters back on with a board under each wheel to get the height correct might work.

how long did it take you to install the floor and where did you buy that at?

can you share how much the Costco box builder is charging you for the butcher block piece and is it full size or half of the ones on the boxes you own?

nice work and thanks for sharing.

Looks like a nice garage makeover in progress.

Like the others, mentioned, nice looking box but I'd want something supporting the front edge. I spy a welder so whipping up a square tubing frame should be easy and still allow the boxes to "free float" with space underneath.

Looking great! As the others have said, I'd definitely get some support under those boxes, as the wall mounting could definitely pose an issue when you start adding real weight in the drawers.

Looks like I need a Costco membership!
