The suggestion of the local dealership offering the league a deal is well worth pursuing. When I moved west and bought my tractor, not having had one before I bought the local dealer who happened to be Kubota. I was predisposed to Kubota anyway but looked into all kinds of off-brands. This was in ‘08 when things were a bit unsettled and the Kioti, Mahindra, etc shops were closing left and right as tractors were not their core business. 15 yrs in, both my BX’s were primarily serviced by me, but on occasion I’d have them come out for a look see. That dealer, while not cheap has been excellent In service, parts and advise. I had the Milwaukee M12 Grease Gun which made the job so very much easier and quicker Which meant that the work got done. My 2660 did not have a backhoe. That was a mistake as I can’t do the ground work any more, so I picked up a BX23. Get the backhoe! Also, a nother poster mentioned driving a 5’ mower with a BX. i had a 4’ and was always questioning whether the tractor was driving the mower or vice versa and that is uncomfortable on hills. I got control of the place and sold the 4’ and went with the 60” MMM.

Did you consider what you could get on a trade or selling private? Might be surprised and will help offset the cost. Right now I see 0% being offered on a few brands. A local dealer might give you a break and with a trade and 0% you may walkway with a good deal right now.

Dealer said it was only worth $2500 even with a good engine and we should consider a local auction. If we do purchase new, we would put this up for sale now and replace once it sells

At only 1000 hours - I would be fixing whatever is ailing your existing model unless the money needs to be spent or you're looking for additional features your old model doesn't have.

Looks like $7000 for a new engine. No quote on a rebuild, so I might have to call around for that. We don't really have a need for any additional features, this one does what we need really well.

I agree. I really don't know much at all about tractors but I have been searching facebook marketplace for a used one for over a year now. The cheapest B7800 in my area are going for $10k+. Heck I think I'd even make the drive to Ohio and buy yours if you were selling it for $2,500.

Ya I have looked online and I think he either didn't want to deal with it on his lot, or missed a 1 on the price when he gave it to me over the phone. If it is truly only worth $2500 and the Board wants to sell it for that much, it will be sitting in my garage and I'll run it as-is until I get around to looking at it. I think I will check with a few other area dealers on quotes and see what we can find.

Another possible buying criteria is the type of diesel engine on the tractor. As of last year, several manufacturers had switched to the newer style common rail diesel engines. If I recall correctly, Massey Ferguson and one or two other companies were still making the older style diesels. Not sure if this is still the case though.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of engines. My understanding is the common rail diesels require cleaner fuel. Depending on where and how the tractor is being used that could be a problem!

Reading through your replies, I wonder if you can find a diesel repair shop that has some connection to your league and they could give you a fair price to rebuild it. Tractors aren't too difficult to remove engine from compared to a modern diesel vehicle. I don't think you would gain much utility with a new one and you would probably end up with a smaller sub 25hp unit with smaller tires. If you can't be without it maybe you could rent one for a couple weeks.

I just recently purchased my Kubota B2601 after shopping all the local dealers and brands. Kioti and Massey Ferguson were the cheapest, JD was stupid expensive and just wanted to upsell me, yanmar and Kubota had the best local dealers and prices in the low to mid range of everyone else. I chose based on dealer.

I'd look specifically for a tractor made by the company selling it. That brings you to JD, Kubota, Kioti, Yanmar, LS, TYM, and an honorable mention to Massey (made by Iseki, but long time partnership). The small Bobcats are made by Kiotis parent company, new Holland's small units are LS. TYM makes the RK tractors. The list could go on and on.
