New U.S. general 72 inch box hard to turn?

Just bought a new H.F., U.S. general 72 inch box. It's very decent for the price.

Only issue so far is the box is a real ***** to turn and maneuver. :shocking:

I inspected the wheels and all turn freely and ensure the castors are grease and turn freely while jacked up.

I have a similar size Matco box that manuvers very well, granted it was several thousand more.

The new box is only half full and not overloaded.

Anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions or fixes?

A co-worker has one sitting in the warehouse at work right now that we just picked up a week ago and it's very easy to maneuver even with one hand. It's empty and we have a very smooth epoxy floor but I even mentioned to him about how easy it was to maneuver when we uncrated it.

I was going to ask, are you trying to move it with tools in it or is it empty and also what your floor surface is like? Also you might check and make sure one of the brakes is not stuck on or malfunctioning, if it has them on any of the wheels.

Buy two additional swivel casters with four swivel casters it'll be very easy to maneuver if it has six put all six on
This!

The first thing I do with any toolbox/cart/unpowered wheeled object is to switch out any solid casters with swivels. It makes a night and day difference.

Make sure the zirc fittings aren't hanging up on the frame of the wheel.

I have the HF gantry crane and it has this problem. I'm hoping I can just tighten the zirc fittings a little bit to clear.

I have 2 of those boxes. Nice box, terrible wheels. Not the greatest of maneuverability unloaded but once fully loaded they are not moving without a fight or a football team. As noted some better wheels and more of them would help. If I ever have to move mine I think a pallet jack will be needed.

I'll tell you though. Probably 90 percent of people who buy big boxes never move them. I know the ones in our shop don't and the ones where I used to work were that way. I always had smaller boxes and always moved them. I bought 2 of the 44 inchers and planned on moving them all the time but now they sit in my home shop and never get moved.

If want move easy about 100-150bucks in better set of wheels .
On a 72" box no way I want 4 swivels unless a 6 wheel box .
This is why best never buying full price and only on best coupon deal or open box clearance .

I would get better castors - 2 straight and 4 swivel, putting the straight ones in the middle and the 4 swivels on the corners. That way it will pivot making it easier to maneuver.

I move my large boxes all the time. I would just buy better wheels. The larger the diameter the easier they are to roll on a bad surface too. Oh and I like the stationary wheels on one end, it drives better that way, it's hard to get them tight to the wall if it pivots on the center wheels. Straight on one end and caster on the other.
