Picked this up through a CL listing while searching for tools. Listing read " Mac box briming with tools"

It was a hour away, got there, looked through box , not many tools. He then informed that he was not selling the tools, just the two boxes. Offered it for a great price, as some of the bearing slides need replacing.

I was not in the market for a box just now, so I left. Got to thinking about it, checked around and with MAc, they do warrenty the slides. Just send them a list and they will mailed to me.

Like I said, was not looking, had others buys that I planned on for the shop and finally called and told him I'd be after it later in the day.

Top box is friction slides and works great. I think I will strip both down and repaint, clean & full lube on slides before I swapp tools over.

How did I do for $ 400.00 for both boxes? It was kind of a impulsive buy.

Bottom roll cab alone is likely worth $600 to $1k, so either the seller was mentally impaired, trying to move hot poperty or really in need of csh at the expense of his/her lack of an IQ.

CL listers are often fools, but I have to see one locally that daft.

There's shanannigan's in that transaction somewhere 'cause my "spidey senses" are tingling.

I have almost the same rig. I have the exact same Mac upper, and the very similar HF 41" bottom. That upper has been a great box, as has the much newer HF bottom.

Your tingling " spidey senses" are prehaps cobbwebbed up and possibly not open to other possiblities that would make a find like this possible.

No shananningan in this sale, this was a garage sale where the gentleman was selling off all so he could go sail the carribean in his boat. He practially sold his entire household to prepare for this.

Also had a high end pool table for $ 400.00, but I already had a box.

Guess the box wouldn't fit in his boat, hence why no tools were for sale.

No doubt I've been lucky in a few good finds here lately. But no questionable sales for me.

Please be cautious before making implied thoughts abouts sales discussed here.

Have a good day.

I plan on keeping and a repaint to both. The seller said he had them about 15 yrs. I'm in the process of researching model #'s so I can order the slides from MAC. If anyone know these of the top of thier head, i'll gladley take them .The upper has the smaller drawer config which I like as to sort out tools.

I like the older stuff when they were not afraid to put some steel into them. I have been eyballing Waterloo Traxx at a freight salvage place for a while, but I think I've done way better with this buy.

Of course it starts a chain reaction as I need to get this done so I can give my son my 20 something year old craftman combo ( wonder if they would warrenty a couple of slides?) Then we can set up his corner and maybe he'll stay out of my box? He has been commenting on how much he like my box, but I think it the tools inside.:lol_hitti

You did quite well.

I see someone compared the bottom you posted to the HF 41 incher. The Mac tech series are much higher quality than the HF variety. I'd compare Mac's Tech series boxes to Snap-on's Classic series.

No doubt the Mac is higher quality. Since I have the same Mac upper as him sitting on my HF lower, I can directly compare the two. I was commenting mainly on the appearance. The drawer layout is pretty similar.
