New user with a husky 22201 ratchet

Hi all, I've been lurking these forums for a while and coveting your garages/shops. I was cleaning out my old shed, it hadn't been touched in the 12 years since we moved in and wasn't cleaned up before that, it ended up as a kind of dumping ground for misc ****. Anyway, I found a ratchet that says husky 22201 on it. I don't know when it's from, I learned from these forums that some are good old made in USA tools and the newer ones, well aren't. I took it apart and the little nubbin that make the click happen is snapped in half. My question is can I find parts somewhere, or should I just put it back together and swap it for a new possibly crappier one at the home depot? Thanks in advance.

I had two of those ratchets. Only mine had a smooth handle and not the knurled grip. One of my ratchets was USA and the other one was taiwan/china. The taiwan/china one was stolen from me with some other tools. I still have the USA made one and it stays in my truck tool kit. They are surprisingly well made ratchets. I think Stanley is the OEM on those ratchets, but I don't think they offer rebuild kits. As far as I know the standard procedure is to take it to Home Depot for a replacement ratchet.

The taiwan/china Husky ratchet I had, the ratcheting action on it was just a bit rougher than the USA made one I own. I never took either ratchet apart though to check for lube.

Here's my suggestion... these ratchets are cheap enough. Buy a new one at Home Depot and take it apart and use the pieces you need from it to rebuild your USA branded ratchet(assuming nothing was changed in the design specs). Then if you want warranty replace the taiwan/china one and you'll have two working ratchets.

kittstr, how did you take this ratchet apart? I have the same one and want to get some lube in the gears but cannot find out how to take it apart.

Remove the spiral ring, the one in the top left corner of picture one.

is that ring on the top where you change to loosen or tighten, or on the bottom where the drive is?

This is just one way to get the spiral ring off. First take a pocket screwdriver and find where the spiral starts on top and wedge the tip of the screwdriver between the the tip of the spiral and the body and then once you have it wedged in between the spiral and the body turn the screwdriver flat and run the tip along the spiral while pulling up an little. I hope this helps if you need pictures i can post some.

Use a pick. I recommend this set. USA made and good quality.
