New VCT flooring

The forum was greatly helpful. I went with Armstong tiles and adhesive, plus a one and one-half inch aluminum threshold. The tiles were in two foot squares using Classic Black and Cool White. I need for it to dry a couple days to apply polish.

Did you use the 'wet lay' adhesive, or the type you let dry a bit before placing the tiles? I'm getting ready to do my basement, and am looking for info. Did you have expansion joints in your concrete? Did you fill them, and with what?

Wait, I think you said you were going to copy my 2x2 style from my other post? Looks like you did and looks like it turned out great!!! Good job. All you need to do is wax it next

I used Armstrong adhesive and let dry for about an hour till clear per the instructions. I had a few tiles shift a week later. In pulling them up I noticed the adhesive was slightly too thick even with the correct trowel and a 100 pound roller.

That can happen. Use a razor to Scape off or the buffing pads will get it off before waxing.

I put a couple coats on three days after I put it down. I am going to wait until the Fall to make sure I have no more tile movement, and let the weather get a little less humid.

Yes four 12 inch tiles per black and white square. I alternated the grain pattern vertical and horizontal.

That's what I did. 12x12 too small for me. For a min I thought you bought BIGGER TILES.

Do you think that if water got on them it would make them lift?
I have a north facing overhead door. Sometimes with hard driving rain it runs in and along my wall.. with some standing. I'm in Canada and the garage isn't heated. But one day will be.

You should WAX IT and that won't be an issue.

Looks good, I'm a week or two away from installing mine. I have the same colors and planning to install in the same 2x2 pattern. To clarify, you have the grain of all the white tiles facing the same direction and all the black ones 90 degrees from that?

Let me say it a different way. Each tile, either directly above or to the side, is in a different direction.

I kept all the same. From a distance it looks like one big tile that way. That was the reason I did the 24x24 look.

Let me say it a different way. Each tile, either directly above or to the side, is in a different direction.

So I gotta ask, why did you rotate every one? Did you maybe do that to the first few by mistake, then it was too late to turn back?

No I had read that it looked better to alternate the “grain”. I did mock up what it looks like all the same way and liked this better. Some discussion here:

Yes, not a working garage. Other than detailing, which I have put in a lot of LED lighting to assist with. We have always had relatively new cars under warranty, so no mechanical work.
