I own several Vessel screwdrivers--excellent quality and really like the magnetic tips. Highly recommended if you own asian vehicles, since Vessel screwdrivers follow the JIS standard. Also available through Amazon.

Same here. I own a Toyota and only wish I had read your post sooner :(

Also, don't forget to check the prices on Ebay.

Interesting side note on JIS: the Japanese established their industrial standard in 1946. That's just one year after their country was a smoking ruin from WW2. One has to admire their resiliency.

Can anyone confirm is "NON-JAWSFIT" 900 models have been updated to automatically include JAWSFIT now? I read this on Japanese Amazon reviews that it's been going on for a while.

I'm not quite sold on JAWSFIT, as I want to avoid damaging screws.

Does anyone know if this is the case now and that we can no longer get non-JAWSFIT drivers?

I had the same question shortly after Jawsfit was introduced. I emailed JDV for clarification but never heard back from them.

No. The clear plastic handle version with the bit magazine inside the handle.
The ball grip is nice but the crystal/clear handle ratcheting driver is a step above. Also available off Amazon US.

Is the debate still going on whether the Philips looking drivers are indeed JIS or just the new DIN?

I went over to the JDV website and it looks like non-Jawsfit 900's are still available...

Also, it looks like the 910 Series tips are also non serrated.

There was a thread awhile back where a poster claimed that Vessel said that the tips are still ground to the pre-DIN angles. In a nutshell apparently they are JIS and not the new DIN standard. I haven't confirmed this personally.

I looked into whether Vessel are still JIS or not on previous threads. I contacted Vessel directly and some distributors. It's still a bit of a mystery because no company is legally allowed to state that their items are 'JIS' as since 2008 it's no longer an official standard.

So officially Vessel drivers are not JIS, however my interpretation from the deliberately vague and round about replies from emails was that the screwdrivers really are still JIS but legally they cannot say so.

This is why you may see statements like 'JIS compatible' or 'within JIS standards' etc.

Huh? JIS still exists, and some recent tools I bought were stamped with JIS.

^ I asked Vessel why 'JIS' was not marked on any of their tools or packaging and that was their reply. I have no way to verify their info. You would think that they would know about screwdriver standards though. :dunno:
