Why do old non electric torque wrenchs make louder pops then new ones when a bolt has been torqued?

I have not noticed any noise difference between "new vs. old". The only things that seem to effect click noise levels are the torque setting, and the type of torque wrench (if it's split beam, or not)

Try “exercising” it by setting it to max value and clicking it 5-6 times in succession before setting it to your desired torque spec. My understanding is that this distributes the lubrication within the internal mechanism, helping to ensure optimal function. Definitely worth doing if it’s colder or your wrench hasn’t been used in a while.

There’s oil in those clickers. Should be able to disassemble, clean and relube, but you may need to recal.
