Got a Campbell housefield 100amp 115 volt welder years ago and I struggled to weld good. If you lay down a ft of weld then probably 1-2in would look good with Lincoln flux core wire. Put a new clamp on it and that was much better, now it welds good 95% of the time. I used a century a few years ago and it worked great as a mig but I don’t recall if it was 110 or 220 volt, I only laid down 3-4in of weld when i was helping a guy out using his welder. Got some gift cards and cash for Christmas so I picked up a hobart handler 190 220 volt only and wow!!! What a difference. The Campbell housefield i had to keep the wire speed from 3/4 to 1.25 and this hobart i set it where it said (believe 6 wire speed)and it was fantastic, actually sounded like a wire feed welder. I also ordered an Amazon Chinesium special called a bestarc. That’s the first plasma cutter i ever used. I just tried it out on some 1/8in steel and it cuts like butter. Way better than a 4.5in cut off wheel. I tried to cut the thin part of a railroad track(1/2in probably) and it didn’t get it done but maybe i went to fast? Using it on 220 volt but it can be used on regular 115/110 for the thinner stuff.

Congratulations on your new equipment. The old saying of " it's the Indian and not the arrow," is not exactly true for welders. The super cheap and more specifically 110 volt welder can be frustratingly hard to get to work.

i wouldnt be ashamed to have a hobart. with prices through the roof it almost seems like the logical choice over miller and lincoln.
as for the china plasma. if you use it more than just the very rare occasion, likely youll have alot of regret not getting something much better.
heres hypertherms smallest machine going through 3/4 steel plate. have cut alot of stuff with the it and still on original consumables. orifice has opened a bit but still cuts nice for the type of stuff i do. well worth the money imo

Congrats on the hobart! I have a 140 handler that works great as far as a 120 volt unit goes. The wire feed control is outstanding. Im planning on getting a bigger brother for it and will likely get the 190 also. Nice welders for the money. We have millers at work which are excellent but pro level..

Yeah we will see how long the plasma cutter lasts i like it so far. Used it on 110 volt today to do some repairs at my moms house and so far so good. I really like it. I had to use my old welder today because the new one wouldn’t reach. I had an adapter to run it off a 30 amp rv outlet and it still sucked. I think the stuff im repairing is just a bit to thick or rusty for it.
