New Welder

I was in tractor supply store today and they had there Hobart Handler 187 mig welder on sale for $499, it is 25-185 amps 230v. I have a stick welder but have been wanting to go gas mig for a while just waiting for a good buy to come along. What do you guys think, is this a good mig welder and a good price? Still need to get a gas bottle and buy a cart or make one for it, and looking forward at learning how to mig weld. I can stick weld already so hopefully I will catch on with some practice.

For that price you did pretty good. I have had mine for 2 years with no problems at all. The only thing I did was upgrade from the plastic drive wheel to Millers metal one.

That is a really nice unit, and will do most anything in light fabrication and repair.

Yup, that is a bargain, it is a good machine, produces very good arc. For general work use 030 solid wire.

Is the drive wheel what spools the wire through the gun?
