New Welding Table

I wanted a welding / fab table that was at a better working height (40 inches) and that I could easily wheel outside to the driveway area for projects, and I decided to build one that would integrate a copy of the Miller ArcStation concept and clamps.

I found a piece of 1/2" plate 45 x 62 inches locally on the cheap (380 pounds!) and had a local water jet guy fab the slots and the clamp bases for me, as per my .DXF drawings. I had a buddy at work do them for me, from my sketches.

They also cut the outline on the water jet to 44x60 and I put a radius on the corners.

I fabbed the frame from some some scrap 3x3 .120 wall and scored a set of Cornwell 500LB casters on ebay. Might add some shelving underneath, haven't decided yet.

It will be disappointing to some folks that I didn't take the time to TIG the whole thing, no thanks...just the caster plates...Well, anyway here are some pics.

Thanks for the kind words

Hi Friendofyours, yes a little undercut, I was in a hurry, LOL.

Leyland I will be adding a crossbar just have nt decided where it will go yet depending on how I decide on shelving for underneath.

Gasexman those are Irwin 8" C-Clamps from toolbarn. It was fun watching them all get cut in the horiz bandsaw.

Mine is similar in design but I opted to gusset the legs and build a separate roller dolly instead of a permanent shelf. It rolls under my bench into position like a shelf, however I have the option to pull it out and set heavy items like transmissions on it.. Seconds as a cart to move heavy stuff around the shop from time to time.

I need a better bench top like you have done, and I like the clamp storage..

Hi, did you use the 211 for the welding? How was it for the 1/2"? Also, I'm interested in building a table like yours. If possible do you remember who did the water jet cutting for you? I'm also in the central valley. You can PM me if you'd like. Thanks!

Nice looking piece of kit. Pretty welds too!

I like the hold downs too. Planning on designing some more clamps for those slots?
