New Wireing question

i have a 16x28 building , im wanting to put im guess about 3 sockets on the 2 28 foot walls and 2 sockets on the back wall along with about 3 florescent lights , my question is how many sockets do you run per breaker , they will not be holding anything on them constant on the side walls the 2 back are for a mig welder 135a and a 30hp compressor i was thinking 1 breaker for each side wall and either 2 breakers on the back wall or 1 because the mig and compressor will not be used at the same time both are 110

should the lightning be seprate ?

any certain wireing i should be useing ?

Are you sure you mean 30HP air compressor? That would be a very large, industrial sized unit, and no way it would be 110V.

I assume you really mean a 30 gallon air compressor. The one sold by HD has a 1 HP motor, draws 15 amps at 110V. (30HP would draw about 30Amps of 3 phase 480 volts).

Myself, I use a lot of circuits in a garage/workshop. I would have one each dedicated for the welder and the compressor, and several additional circuits, to allow for multiple power tools, grinders, etc.

Inside the house, in basic living space (bedroom, living room), I use 8 outlets max per 20 Amp circuit as a rule of thumb, 12/2 wire. But the load in kitchens, bathrooms, and workshops are dramatically different, and you can't use that rule there. I usually run 14/2 for lighting, on a 15 Amp breaker.

Breakers are cheap, so I would rather have a few extra circuits, than try to stretch a few extra outlets onto them.

In the workshop, I alternate circuits between outlets, so adjacent outlets are on different circuits. This costs a little more to do, but gives a lot more flexibility.

I would also put more than three outlets on the long walls. And part of it depends on your layout: workbench, tools, whatever. But three in 28 feet is pretty skimpy.

I am not an electician, the choices are yours.

Thanks for the reply . been working havent had a chance to get back to this post.

Id have to look at the compressor to be sure , i bought it new used it once , let a friend use it and havent picked it up in like a year so its been awile , im sure its 110 it has a 220 option , it a small snap on compressor handle 2 wheels .

you were saying 8 outlets per 20 amp in a house , i under stand what ya mean about shop and house being different , i was just trying to get some ideas and a basics to start off of , i noticed my breaker box doesnt have a spot for a double throw switch i dont know if that is going to be a problem or not for what im trying to do.

the basics i know for sure i will have in the shop are the air compressor , the mig , other then that it will be your normal grinders and gadgets , most of the stuff i own is air or cordless

Double check that breaker box. I would be shocked if it can't handle a 200 breaker. Look at the thin breakers at Lowes or wherever. A thin 220 breaker is the same thickness as a regular 110 breaker.

Myself, on a compressor that can run either way, I am installing a dedicated 220 circuit for it.

A standard 2" thick double pole breaker is for 240V (made from two single pole breakers riveted together and the handles tied together.

A 1" thick breaker made up of two thin (1/2" thick) breakers riveted together is known as a Tandem and is simply two single pole breakers (thin or half width) riveted together. They get their current from the same stab, so they cannot be used as 240V breakers.

There are some breakers made from FOUR half width or thin breakers riveted together, and the two in the middle would be for one 240V circuit and the two outer most would make another 240V circuit if the handles are tied together. I have a Siemens that has two 20 amps handle tied, and two 30 amps, handle tied by a U shaped metal handle tie.
