3/8" Plate. Should have it on in the next couple of days. OK as soon as it stops being so cold!

Since we are in the same town, where are you planning on getting the top? I'm looking for a nice top for a table too. Maybe we could split a sheet for a cheeper price?

Sorry I actually already have the sheet, but that was a great idea! I bought it when I got the rest of steel for this project.

The best place in town to buy steel is General Steel out by the loop and the Clovis Hwy. They are great guys out there and they have great customer service. I have been doing business with them for quite a while, give them a call.

I'd second that. All of my steel purchases have come from them and I have never been disappointed with their quality or customer service. Besides that...I get a discount since I'm considered "staff" at Tech!

I AM FINISHED! Well almost... I still have to bolt down the vise. I did not have the hardware I wanted to use in my bolt bin so I will have to go out tomorrow and pick some up. Other than that I am done!

Just so everyone knows I did lower the tailgate today and stand on it. I even bounced a little on it and did not even budge the table. YES! This is one very stable platform.

I also added a pic below to show the upper drawer access. I took the pic from about 45 degrees down angle which just about shows the back of the drawer. So I would have to say that I am pleased with that.

Thanks to everyone for all your kind words and your encouragement. This build has been a lot of fun. Yes it had it's challenges, but I think in the end I built something that I am proud of and will handle just about anything I can throw at it.

So I hope this build has given you some ideas and some encouragement to go out and build your own project. Make one that fits your needs and has some innovative ideas.

BTW I was in Office Max the other day and I bought a computer stereo speaker system and decided to use it on the welding table. I mounted the speakers underneath and the subwoofer in the tailgate box. So all I have to do is hook up my phone to the system and then run the tunes through my MP3 player. Took a while with the EQ on the MP3 player to get the sound just right, but it now sounds really good. I will snap some shots tomorrow and let you see what it looks like.

I got around to taking the pictures of the speaker system tonight. The system sounds really great for such small speakers. The two main speakers are in the front of the cabinet along with the external volume control (the blue lit up round piece in the upper left hand of the picture below). The subwoofer sits in the rear tail gate cabinet. It did take a while to get the acoustics just right on the equalizer in my phone app due to all the metal and the different harmonics, but it was worth the effort. My phone, which runs the system, sits in the top drawer on a stand out of harms way.

So there you have it! I have been using this table a bunch lately. It has made me so much more efficient in the shop. Everything is right there at my fingertips. Having power on either side of the table makes doing multiple operations so much easier.

Oh yeah I also picked up an 8" bench grinder today. I am going to make a mount for it to slide into the 2 1/2" tubes on the end of the table. Once I get that mount made I will post some pics.

Thanks again for all the kind comments and encouragement!

That's a great looking box, entertainment system you built, and after a hard day at the shop you can listen to tunes, pop open a cool one and sit on your tailgate while you wind down.:3gears:

OK I went and spent some serious money today. I purchased the Accuair e-level setup along with their new iLevel system. They are just about to release the Android version of the iLevel. They said it should be a couple of weeks before they release it, so that was cool.

However I did not buy their valve assembly. Their valve assembly is a 3/8", and the more I talked to them about it and asked them directly how fast is really was, the more it turned out it was slower than the current 3/8" valve assembly I have today on another ride. Basically the sales guy admitted that their systems speed is between a 1/4" and 3/8" normal valve assembly. Not on my dually! So I went with the Airbaggit 1/2" airengine valve system. And before you ask, yes you can run another companies valve system off their controller. Maybe not as plug and play as I would have wanted, but I am not going to put up with that slow of a system speed for that much money.

I also got my rims sent off to Trevor (Thanks Trevor for all the help today!) at Tennessee Wheel and Tire. I can't wait until these are back and I get the tires mounted up.

So now I'm broke... But HAPPY! HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!!!

Been quite a while since I have done anything on this thread. A little update. I have been using this table more and more. It is where I do almost all my work now. As you can see it has even been the perfect place to do all the body work on my dually project. Just lay the large pieces up on the top and go to town. Wipe the surface clean when done and move on to the next part...

I again hope you get a chance to build something like this for yourself. It will really change how you approach any project. With all your tools right there at your finger tips and access to 360 degrees of the project is very unique.

As I move on to other projects I will post other stuff I am doing to keep you up to date.

Cheers!:D:thumbup:
