I had a set that looked identical, but it was kingcraft brand. The box end broke, and it wasn't even a really tight nut. The spring got all messed up, so it wouldn't ratchet in either direction.

I have a set of the reversible gearwrench and haven't had any issues yet. With the one you have not being reversible be very careful to NOT get yourself in a position that gets the wrench trapped as there is no way of reversing the fastener.

There have to be a hundred threads on these wrenches on the forum. I prefer the reversible and own both with quite a few years use on both sets.
I would say consensus is good with the dispute being between reversible and standard as a preference.

I have 2 sets of the reversible, and one set of the non-reversible. No problems with the non-reversible, had to warranty a couple of the reversible. I would buy them again if I had need for another set, right now I'm covered at home and work.

I don't have any Gear wrench stuff but I do a have a few non-reversing and a set of SAE/Metric reversible wrenches, I do like the latter alot better. I think you'll be happy with them.

I recently just got some Gearwrench ratcheting tools within the last two months. All my other ratcheting wrenches are either Armstrong or Craftsman. I purchase the Gearwrench tools after reading about them on this forum. Really nice stuff I think you will like them.

How did that happen? stubborn bolt or just a defect?

It wasn't that stubborn of a bolt, I had the set for a few years and only used them occasionally and never used them to break loose a bolt. It just came apart like that. I think it was just a defect.

I emailed them for where to send it, but got no response. So, I'm just going to mail it to them using the address on their website. Hopefully they will replace it.

I have a lot of gearwrench stuff, a lot of the older stuff when they were still made in Taiwan. They're good wrenches.
My local napa sells gearwrench along with their Carlyle tools and they will honor gearwrench's warranty when I've had a few that have froze up on me.

I have the same set. I paid 10 more for them. You can get yourself in a jamb up but these are great at the sale price. You will use 3 or 4 of them and I use mine as problem solvers on occasion. I got by without for a long time and am so used to a common combo wrench its hard for me to use anything else.
If I was to do this again may look as some flex in small sizes on sale if I thought it would help much. Again, more as problem solvers than daily users.
At 50$ you can park them and they don't eat a lot.

They will perform well, just don't try to break stubborn fasteners with them. They will only take so much torque before they break.
