does anyone have any experiences or opinions on the new Wright tool co's lineup of tool chests? I was looking into buying a fully American tool chest made here with US materials. the only two companies I found were Wright and Kennedy. They seem to genuinely be the best option on the market but I can't get my hands on one until I buy it since no one in my area has it in stock I have to just get it dropshipped. their claims are pretty fantastic. 400 pounds per drawer, fully welded cabin, the thickest metal and railings anyone else on the market claimed, and a 55-year satisfaction guarantee. it seems really nice. I was hoping someone else would have experiences with them. they used to be made by international but they aren't anymore and it is by an unknown OEM if anyone knows the OEM I would appreciate that as well. Is a higher quality tool chest even worth it compared to a cheaper US-made one? this is my first and hopefully only tool chest purchase. I am just starting out getting tools I've been just bumming off my mentor since I started but I've done a probably unreasonable amount of research and I'm ready to start.

I was sent these by my regional sales representative and it seems very compelling

What is your intended use? Home, millwright, mechanic?

I intend to use it at work, I am a technician for injection molding machines so I'm in a factory setting mostly that doesn't use caustic or harsh materials.

I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think Stor Loc makes these. The 2 drawer carts look similar and I want to say the specs were pretty similar when I first looked these up a while back. No idea if Stor Loc stuff is good or not.
you are completely right! I called and had a fantastic conversation with their sales rep. (edit. wasn't a sales rep. i did not know until he sent me an email about order details after but it was actually the companies president.) they are the EOM for all wright tool cabinets and many of the Williams and Snap-on ones. I looked at their catalog and saw the exact same model 100% the same but the MSRP was 3000$ cheaper and it has way more options for color, accessories, and more. The dude even said I could order from them directly pay no shipping and they'd make it and ship it within 4 weeks. I had looked everywhere and I could not find the OEM. thank you so much dude you're a life and wallet saver.

Snap-on doesn't have a third party building their carts/boxes. Williams is also just their lower level stuff rebranded from Snap-on.

I took that to mean other types of cabinets, rather than toolboxes or carts.
Could be. Even then though I don't believe they have a 3rd party OEM building any storage for them. Stationary storage / cabinets are just their Master line with feet/forklift areas instead of casters. Looking at the Stor-Loc drawers they're a Vidmar/Lista style drawer.

A couple years ago the Heritage Iron magazine gave away a Stor Loc cabinet to the winners of the subscription contest. Sherry Schaefer the owner and editor of the magazine interviewed the winners. They gave her good enough recommendations for us to look at them. We also found and looked at a couple ones in real life and they were as good as the recommendations.

We will be using them for workbenches, tool storage, and part storage when we update the shops. The company most likely will have to take our wishes. They mention going on site for evaluations. I do not think they will go as much into the wilds as we are.

I have a problem doing business with people who lie to me. Snap-on boxes are made by Snap-on. The only exception was when they were originally made by MBC until Snap-on bought the company. Stor-loc may make Williams, but they do not make Snap-on boxes. There are dozens of ways to check this out on the web, or you can call the plant in Tennessee and ask.

True. I was mainly attesting to the US side of it but that's a valid point. As the Williams go we have one here at my work and its just a KRA rebadged. Has the Lock-n-roll and all.

I do not think the person was lying about being the OEM for certain snap-on boxes. He did not say they made all of them just many of them and I was not talking to some misinformed sales representative. I called the only phone number listed on their website and the person who picked up was the company president, Mr. Ryan. I am 100% sure they're the OEM for wright as their catalog has the EXACT same boxes as Wright and while I have not looked through snap-on's catalog I see no reason he would lie about that as it does not make me not more likely to buy from them.

glad to hear you've had a positive experience with them. I'm definitely getting one as there doesn't seem to be any company as made in the USA or of as high quality. hard to tell if a product is really as good as advertised without word of mouth and reviews.

I've got no need for any of these but, whoof, those Wright chests appear to be pricey.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wtc-wrchd4612rd
($6230 + shipping) vs.
($4650 + free shipping or $45 for liftgate shipping)

Dunno about the bonafide COO for anything. I figure that people lie.

All US made Snap-on storage items are made in their own factory in Algona, IA. I do believe he lied to you regarding that. They may make something for another tool truck brand but the only storage items Snap-on doesn't build themselves is the bluepoint carts I believe which are made in China. You can easily google this and see Snap-on has an entire plant for toolboxes so they certainly don't have another OEM for theirs.

I don't have a dog in this fight so I don't care either way, and it's always possible the person on the phone was mistaken, but...

Snap-on is a massive global company. Not that long ago they had boxes made in Canada. And I think the European market gets Chinese sourced boxes (maybe not all but some).

When I saw that post the first things I thought of were items like diagnostic cabinets, wall cabinets for pullers, and other oddball stuff that doesn't generally come to mind.

Just because they have a US plant doesn't mean they don't ever use an outside US oem. They do it for some tools. I don't see why it seems so impossible that Snap-on uses them for some type of equipment cabinets or something. Having a plant doesn't necessarily mean you can make everything more efficiently than the next guy. Especially for a giant company like Snap-on.

Plus, just what is a 'plant'? Soup to nuts from raw ore and petrochemicals is one thing, just doing final assembly is another. Calculating the percentages is bound to be a difficult thing.

I expect that practically any product has international shipping for some precursor material or component.

We've managed to build a house of cards in terms of manufacturing + JIT deliveries. Things could always get sketchy in a moment's time.

The US has among the strictest labeling laws in the world. We all know the toolbox factory is not a mining and foundry operation and we know they're not just a final assembly plant of imported components. Let's not turn the thread into a dumpster fire.

I used poor wording in the previous post. I meant a US oem outside of Snap-on itself.

What did you end up with? I went through this a couple months ago and actually had a thread about it. They also have a lot of deeper drawers which is nice for industrial stuff. I wanted made in USA and the whole made in USA with global materials just earked me the wrong way for a $10k proto box. Those boxes do look nice and I like the fork liftable base option. If the 52" bottom is really $6k that's 54" snapon master on special territory, my coworker just picked up a new 73" Snapon Master for $7k.

Stanley slapps made with global materials on everything after a fight with the ftc in the 90's
