Newair G73 Heating Problem w/ Video

Hey guys, I have been on your site for a while, but this is my first post. I moved recently and hooked my G73 Heater back up yesterday. I am not 100% positive, but it doesnt seem to be operating properly. I searched your site for a couple hours last night looking for any indication that it is working right or not, but couldnt find anything. Please take a look at this video if you have a Newair G73 and tell me what you think. I scoured the internet last night trying to find a video of the heater working, but I couldnt find anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Newair has not been any help.

My guess is that you are running it on 120V instead of 240. Make sure you haven't accidentally switched a ground or neutral wire with a hot wire. Were it a problem with the fan itself not moving enough air, the temperature of the heated air would be considerably hotter than normal operation.

I have the same unit and it has been working well for a few years now.

Thanx Greatbear, u are correct. I checked the wiring when I got home from work tonight and found that it was running on 120v. I wired it up two years ago at my previous home and I am not sure how I did it...but I got two of the wires crossed up. Pretty embarrassing. On a positive note...the heater runs like a champ now. It puts out plenty of heat and moves the air well. Thanks again. I am going to remove the YouTube video. I don't think it is fair to the company to leave it up if I was at fault for wiring it up improperly.

I too have always wondered, if I wire the unit correctly for 240V. If possible could you please example how you have rewired ( I understand pics are always good but not always available). thanks in advance!

I switched up L2 and the ground. I'm pretty disappointed in myself. I am very careful when working with electricity, I even make a point of not working with it if I'm tired. How I messed this one up...I don't know.

The 240V heaters don't use a neutral, so you run one power (say black) wire to L1 and the other (say white) to L2 and connect the copper safety ground - done.

This is actually not an uncommon wiring mistake, and, unfortunately, a dangerous one. It leaves the housing of the device electrically hot with 120 volts! If the heater were attached to an electrically grounded support - like a steel building - the breaker would have popped off the instant it was turned on. Attached to a nonconducting structure, anyone touching the housing while making contact with a grounded surface will get a nasty shock. Double check your work to be safe!
