Some quick questions from a first-time floor concrete floor burnisher, before I rent a machine and buy a bunch of consumables. Please excuse my newbishness.

1) I'm planning on renting a corded electric model, due to this being a one-man job with a 2nd floor component to it, and I can't hump around a propane model myself. I realize this means significantly less downward pressure - but I read elsewhere that it'll accomplish the same thing - just take more time. Does this sound correct?

2) What's the deal with the plastic nut that retains the pad - doesn't that scrape the floor? Is this considered a consumable, requiring me to buy spares? This thing, I mean:

3) Tech support at the manufacturer of the dye & finish I used (Ameripolish) suggested burnishing with a hog's hair pad. But their sheet for the 3DSP "semi-topical" finish product specs an "800 grid or higher pad". Is there some pseudo-equivalence between hogs hair and the grit rating of a diamond pad?

4) Does the process create a lot of dust, or fling **** off at the walls, such that I need to cover everything with plastic? This is happening in a partially furnished interior room.

Overall, I'm happy going with the least aggressive setup that gets the job done. The dyed logo on the floor is fairly intricate & I ended up having to laboriously stencil & re-dye the whole thing after the final polish step (800 or 1500, I don't recall) removed most of the first dye job. I don't want a repeat of that, nor do I want any residual dye that I've been able to manually scrub away to smear to the neighboring raw concrete.
