Finally joined. Bought my house in december with the shop already built.
I grew up in my dads machine shop, so its a natural place for me.
He unfortunately passed before I bought this place, so I am going to resort to asking my questions on the forum.

Great place so far, very welcoming.

Dustin: ask away we're here to help you if we see your questions and are able to. sorry to hear your dad has passed and i know mine will someday soon because he's been slowing down a lot the last few years and he's 83 in a few months. my mom who is 82 might out live me.

i'm not far and had cousins grow up in your area so i know Marysville pretty well.

take care and welcome to our group. enjoy the reading because if you try you'll learn more than one thing a day which is sort of my goal that i always exceed.

cheers

Unfortunately I lost my dad when he was just sixty. It was pretty ******. But, im doing my best to carry his legacy on, and pass down all I learned from him to my 3 kids.

Learn, thats what I am here to do. fear not on asking questions, I like to search

Welcome to the forum, love the shop. You can post pictures of the regular garage too. We love pictures.

I threw one up in the other thread I started.

But here's a better one

Dusten: is that a 67 or 68 Mustang? i had a 67 fastback and a 70 Mach 1 with a 428 cobra jet 40 years ago. wish i still had the Mach 1.

nice looking house. i think you'll fit right in with that last post.

we'll also teach you how to store more stuff in each square foot of your assigned space if you want to learn.

here's my new project and not quite sure if i'm going to keep it or sell it yet. it's not a Honda so i'm not quite sure how to work on it.

take care

Dusten: Awesome looking car and with Dad's and your hands on it to spiff it up and nothing better than Grandma's car for a little more family history.

does it have the 289 or i think they bored them out for maybe a 302? or did you get a 428 in it from Grandma?

i'm not much of a car guy these days since Honda made a CRV in 1997 it's been bulletproof. not saying that when the kids finish college and i get a shop that it wouldn't be nice to have another old muscle car to drive around though.

take care and ask questions if you have any or enjoy the reading and learning.

cheers

Car was originally a 6 cylinder 3 speed car. The original drive train was lost. It now has a 302 from a 1990 mustang, converted back to carb with a small cam. It has a 5 speed from a 1994 cobra also. We swapped in a 9" rear and disc brakes.

Dusten: thanks for the link and you and Dad did an awesome job with that 68 Mustang. you should be proud to drive her around town.

do you have any questions on how to use our forum? if you do just ask or hope to see you on some of the threads i post in or read. i tend to hang in the old tools and vise threads, but i move around because there is lots to learn here.

did you know table salt kills weeds? my gravel parking area gets some annually for it's diet and it's doing quite well now.

cheers

Dusten: i buy 25 pound bags at costco and probably use one a year for a 12 x 50 foot gravel parking strip. here's a test area i did on a spot next to a block wall i built that was a pain to weed and within a couple weeks the weeds were gone. you don't want water run off into your grass or planting areas, but it does do the job.

it was lush green grass and weeds 2 or 3 weeks prior to these pictures.

25 pound bags went from $4.75 to $5.75 when i started telling a few of my friends and GJ members because we were buying 4 bags at a time.

here's a thread i started that even got into bible times and talk of salt of the earth posts.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277402&highlight=salt+kills+weeds

let me know what you think if you try it or make a post on that salt kills weeds thread.

cheers

Dusten: i just use the bag to spread and 25 pounds goes pretty quick that way. my wife likes to use an old cup or glass and spread it a little thinner and she gets more coverage. at $5 a bag i'm still going to use the bag.

also a good thing to get more activity on your garage thread is to put a link to it in your signature that way when you post on other threads more members can find your link or see that you have one.

have fun salting the earth and save some for the popcorn you can eat instead of pulling weeds later. :bounce:
