Hey everyone, looks like I have discovered a pretty helpful site here, everyone seems to just wanna help everyone else, exactly what I am looking for!!! I am glad to see also that there are so many people just as excited about garages as I am:) Anyways...to the point

I have been tossing around the idea of building a garage with an appartment, or a house, for about the last year. Currently I rent, but have 25 vacant acres in northern ontario in a small town, that I am very excited to live on. The property is located in an unorganized township, therefore, there are no real building codes, can be built out of rough lumber etc.... only thing that requires inspection is electrical and septic. I am a single guy, no kids, and just think that a garage with an appartment is the way to go for now. I have attached a link with what i think is an ideal garage for me, just wanted to get some opinions or other plans form people. Do you think its too expensive to build a garage with an appartment on top? Should I just say screw it and build a house?
Thanks for your time and suggestions!

I don't think it's a bad idea, in the future you could still build a house and the apartment above the garage could be used as a guest house. I would keep it minimal though.

sounds like a great idea to me and if you ever outgrow it you could rent it out and build a house elswhere on the property.

Always a kewl idea. Keep in mind when use any kind of paint or chemical, you'll likely smell it throughout the living area.

Definitely go for it. As has been said, you can always build a larger house elsewhere on the property and then you've got a man cave above the garage.
