Hello everyone, I have been, well lurking on this forum for way too long. This forum is absolutely amazing!! The ideas that everyone has and contributes is just amazing.

So a little about me, I am a machinist and welder in the Air Force. I have been in for 13 years. My family and I have been stationed in Arizona for 6 years now. This is where we bought our first home. My wife and I are both Mustang enthusiast. She drives a 2013 GT everyday and I have my "garage queen" 1991 that I have owned since high school. I spent about 3.5 years restoring it once we settled here in Az "long story on that". I like to use my garage for fabricating and general mechanics.

Since I have just been lurking for so long I have come to appreciate old/vintage tools because of many of the members here. Although I have not had much luck acquiring such tools I am on the look out everyday. This has by far been my favorite forum to be on and to now be a member of.

SS: welcome to our forum officially now and glad you joined so we can pick your brain as you ask questions and we help you. I'm very happy to hear you like old tools and if you've ventured over onto the vise thread or the Craftsman block grinder thread you might have noticed more than a couple of my posts and some of my old tools.

before i joined i was happy with a small assortment of power tools and i actually had a carry box of hand tools with a bag of Ryobi 18v which is still my go to tools. I've since acquired several storage units to gather up a few other tools with the idea that i'll build a shop some day when the last 2 of my 5 kids has left home and gotten their own place.

so BEE CAREFUL learning too much about tools because buying the ones you now know how to use can be addicting.

any chance you can post up a few pictures of your mustangs or your shop's tools? also you might want to put your area in your profile either with city or state or general area like i did so the other members will know where you live if you are asking questions to get better answers.

upndown: In assuming you are talking about north valley it Phoenix? We are in South East Tucson

drivesitfar: Thanks for the welcome. From what I have seen in my time of browsing the pages here at GJ, everyone seems very laid back and just an all around great group of people.

I have seen the Vices, i mean Vise thread and because of it I am searching everyday for vises to pop up for a reasonable price, also that craftsman block grinder threat has made me not want any other type of bench grinder. Which is the next tool on my list that I actually need. I just don't want to settle for something.

I did already start a garage thread which I am slowly bringing up to speed. I have about 6 years to post about it. The Mustang is in alot of the pictures. The other night when I was going through and sorting out the past 6 years of garage pictures I came across some pictures of my car when it was completely torn apart. I can't believe the transformation I did on it. My garage thread is titled No Guarantees Garage.

That does bring me to my first question, how do you put the link of your garage thread in your signature block? I like your style for quoting also, it keeps it clean.

fnieto: What part of Tucson are you in? I am southeast.

SS: i usually get in my profile on GJ and click on the signature link. now that it's open on that browser page I open up another window in my browser and get to the thread on Garage Journal i want to copy. then once i'm on that page i right click on the browser's page (top left of your window explorer or Google chrome) and copy it. then go to the signature line where i have a curser and right click and hit paste. there might be an easier way, but this way works for me. ask again if you have any questions or let us know you were able to do it.

while you are in your profile you can click on your avitar and put in any picture you like (well almost) and you can change it often. i have had a few now and the latest one is a South Dakota guy's magic welding skills with scraps that made this bison i posted. here's a couple others I've used to give you an idea.

BTW there is one of the best vise restoration guys in the US living close to you and his son picks up his vises. i think the old guy's name is Chuck and you might see his ads on Craigs or Ebay and i think he's been trying to sell a nice 6 inch York lately. anyway if you want to find a good old vise might i suggest garage sales and asking everybody you see that is selling old tools if they have one and i'm sure you'll have one or maybe more in no time.

the 1/2 HP commercial Craftsman block is maybe the best value for your money on the planet if you need a bench grinder and if i ever find a nice 1 HP i might sell one of my Baldors.

thanks for the compliment and i started that when a lot of members were just hitting the quote button and the same page of pictures or a long post would clutter up the pages for a while. glad you like it and just a word or warning if you start searching for old tools because they can overrun your garage.

cheers and again welcome
