Stumbled across this site a couple of days ago...still checking out all the posts to catch up...some real nice work /living spaces here.
I'm from the Jeep world....so the nature of that sport I needed a garage to do the repairs and upgrades.
Actually my wife built the garage and I helped her. It was our first project of this type of undertaking. Only one of us could be in charge of the project and we decided it to be her....since she was the one funding most of it. Miss Sue went to the library and got a number of construction books...we spoke to some contractor friends and away we went.
The garage building is 36x26. The last 10 feet is a sitting area with sliding doors to the pool area. Inside that back room is a full bathroom (compost toilet) sink and shower. The walls are just a tad over 10 ft and are 2x6. The opening from the garage to the back room is about 4 ft wide with an opening above the door for a hanging 27 inch tv(satelite) that can be rotated to face either side. the walls are covered with drywall and have been mudded and taped by Miss Sue...I'm the painter. The floor is a concrete slab with radiant heating...which is really nice in this part of the country. The walls are decorated with about 75 various tin signs. Over the years I gathered up all sorts of tools and cabinets that were on sale...they sat for a couple of years before the garage was built...so most of the items in the garage appear to be new. Got the beer fridge that is done up like a tool chest (Tool Cool). Tolos that I have acquired...full upright tool chest...mig welder...torches...shop press...compressor...cop saw...pipe bender...engine cherry picker...engine stand...standing drill press and other tools. The wife has a table saw and router table....need to get her to make some wooden cabinets for storage one of these days.
All the work was done by us except the concrete finishing (we did man the wheel barrows and shovels/rakes), installation of the boiler (we did set up the lines in the ground), and the vinyl siding (we were going to do that but winter was approaching and the savings for us to do it were not that great. Everything else was done by us....the plumbing...the electrical the shingling...it was quite the projuect...not sure if I would undertake it again...but we did save quite a bit of money doing it ourselves.
It is almost complete...just have to hang the light fixtures and run the plumbing to the sinks and showers and finish the wall in the back room..we will wait until spring for that.
I will post pics of it but want it to be complete before doing so.
I truly enjoy the space out there and somedays just go out there and hang out by myself and my 3 golden retrievers...though it seems that beer fridge is always dirty and needs to be cleaned out frequently
Look forward to posting here with you guys.
