Wife and I are in the middle of closing on our first home. It's got a nice two-car garage that I plan on doing some basic stuff with. Just buying a house, and still not being done with school my budget for garage stuff is limited. Plan is to keep an eye on Craigslist for some free kitchen style cabinets which I will refinish and mount in the garage. I'm going for a VERY clean but functional look, so planning on cabinets, white paint up top, a stripe down low, and then gray paint on the bottom. Can't afford RaceDeck, so I'll be doing GarageTrac flooring as well.

Can't wait to get started, and thanks everyone who posts their garages on here, so much inspiration!

Jason

Jason: what are you going to school to get educated for? Dr., Lawyer, Civil Engineer? if you are handy enough to hang cabinets you are in the right place. lots of ideas here and we can always use a handy member to help lend us some of his wisdom.

i like old tools and maybe old vises the best (so far) so i'm usually hanging in those areas, but I've got a new fence and deck to build this summer so hopefully our weather around her just keeps getting better this year.

congrats on the house and if you know how to post pictures please post a few. also ask questions if you have any either here or on the threads you read that have the information you need to learn and find you don't quite understand what was said or meant by the prior posts.

cheers and welcome to our group

Software developer actually. Hoping to stay in the area afterwards and get a job with Amazon, Microsoft, or one of the other thousand tech companies in the Seattle area.

We're actually looking at getting a security gate installed before we do anything else, not only to keep people out, but to keep the kids (4yo and 2yo) in while still letting them run around and have fun playing in the back and front yards. So that's a big expense, so garage might be getting some small DIY stuff (paint and if I can find the free cabinets).

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Jason: just an FYI. fences don't keep your kids in your yard. i raised 5 and we fenced in our yard with the neighbor so had twice the yard and the kids always went out the front door and played in the street. fence will help with a dog though so if you can keep up with the bi products of the dog the kids might play in the yard with it to give you and your wife a minute to breath.

good luck and it sounds like you are in the right area for what you are learning to do. find your niche and it's a great place to raise a family.
