New here and first post. I have read a couple post from other user's and thought I should join, tons of good information here. Would like info/opinions on four post lifts. Family does not want me to purchase Chinese junk, so leaning toward Bendpak Hd9ST. What do you think. Mostly will store classics.
Thank you!

Search will bring up many many threads on this topic; are you saying the lift must be USA made, or only that it must not be junk? You'll have a very short list to work with if USA made is your criterion but that's a good place to be. Some well-known brands offer a USA made product but also sell high quality China sourced lifts.
Some places sell junk.
You need to decide if you want a parking lift or a service lift. Do you need extra height? Extra width? Double wide? Casters;drip pans, jack trays, jacks...
Where is your budget?
Minimum for a decent basic parking lift will be around 3~3.5K. There are certainly cheaper available, but you said no junk.

-No does not have to be MIUSA, but no junk.
-Main purpose parking lift.
-No extra Height or width, that's why HD9ST
-Would like casters, drip trays, and aluminum ramps, Jack tray would be nice
-3-3.5K budget doable.
I guess I'm asking what can beat the Bendpak HD9ST

I would go with Bendpak or DirectLift/Forward/Rotary for that price range. Dannmar is out of business now, bought by Bendpak. If I were shopping again I'd buy a Forward EFP9.
ALSO keep in mind that Bendpak needs compressed air to operate the locks. Do you have an air compressor?
Also check out GrandPrix by Bendpak, it's mechanical locks

After A LOT of research on this board I was going to go with the Bendpak HD-9ST because ,for me, it was a perfect fit for the width of my garage.

Unfortunately after discussing with Bendpak about height I found that I needed about 5 inches more ceiling height.... 5 friggin inches.

So I'm now probably going with a MaxJax, but if I had the ceiling height it would be the Bendpak

You just described the Advantage Lift DX-9000. I have the older SS9000XLT and love it. Great lift. Great warranty. Great before and after sale service.
There are quite a few Advantage users here on GJ. Do a quick search and they should pop up.

Just bought and assembled my Advantage DX9000-XLT over memorial day weekend.
I got drip trays, ramps, casters, wheel chocks and wheel stops (aluminum) all included.

Only option I added on was a manual bridge jack to bring the wheels off the ramp ( paid 695$)

glad I waited an extra year or two before ordering. The improvements they did that I have on my lift is the secondary safety lock on each post, and the ability to set the ramps in a wider configuration which fits my 1/2 truck perfectly. Also fits a family charger and challenger without issues.

The extra length and height of this model is absolutely worth it.

I second the Advantage DX9000. Phone Tony Weber at Advantage, you can get his contact info off their website. I was going to buy the BendPak too, then learned about the Advantage and it was a no brainer based on quality, included accessories and customer service. Phone Tony, he is a great guy and really knows about lifts.

Like others have said, do a search on here about Advantage Lifts and you will find a lot of info.

Let us know what you decide!

Here's a pic of mine!

Cheers,

-Garry

Buy an Advantage Lift!!! I'm glad I did not buy anything else.
It is built very nice, and has post surrounds vs the internal C channel. Install video is on youtube.

I looked up the specs on the Advantage DX9000-XLT and that one looks darned impressive, it's also wide enough that I can actually park my low-boy trailer under it (snuggly) meaning that its presence does not make that stall useless for other things

Definitely looks good, going to call him tomorrow. Thank you, I knew it was a great idea to join up. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Didn’t like the idea of the air locks on the bendpak.

American company, American designed, fabricated in China under Advantage specifications!

I think you could say the same thing about Bendpak and other lift companies. Bendpak actually built its own $65 million facility in China. Advantage is most likely outsourcing to a Chinese owned factory, though it does build 3 of its 2 post lifts in the US and Bendpak does not build any lifts in the US. Any of these lifts would be fine for most people.

I had an Atlas 2 post for 6 years that was made in China and worked great. I sold it only because I moved to a house with a wood floor garage and had to change to a 4 post. I bought a Bendpak because it could be set up to give 41.5” between the runners, more space to work on the car than any other 7-9k 4 post lift. If I was just parking or changing tires or oil, that would not matter but I’d like to be able to drop a subframe and motor (I’ll have to disconnect suspension arms) and a few inches can make a big difference.

Glad I posted, looking like Advantage DX9000, unless someone persuades me otherwise.
Like the narrower Bend ST, but....

I have the BendPak HD-9B, regular length but extra wide. It’s been flawless and I enjoy the fact that BendPak has been around for a long time and customer support is awesome too. When I first got my lift, I had some questions and BendPak was really responsive. I got mine with the RJ45 hydraulic jack and a jacking tray too, which comes in real handy for placing a regular oil catch can for oil changes, or as use as a table for parts/tools/lights while under the lift. I often use the RJ45 to raise the front of a car and then put jack stands on the jacking tray and I then drop down the front end of the car on the jacks stands before sliding the hydraulic jack to the back, lift the rear end. This way I can easily do tire rotations or brake bleeding with the car totally off the lift. I also bought the caster kit, which has helped me move it around, as needed. All I want now is the air line kit as that will make using my RJ45 even more easier.

***NOTE: I’m not sure why BendPak doesn’t make a big deal out of this but the coolest feature about the extra wide HD9B model is that one of the ramps (the one without the hydraulic cylinder underneath it) can be unbolted and slid so that you can easily adjust the width of the tracks. This has allowed me to drive my rider mower onto the lift to swap out blades or sharpen them. You can also adjust the track width to accommodate really narrow cars too - if needed. I’ve even slid both tracks together to work on my neighbor Honda Goldwing trike.

You can probably fit 2 of those 914 with an 8’ ceiling!

Correct me if I am wrong, but Advantage lifts dont look like they are ALI Certified. That should be the bare minimum of any lift you buy hobbyist or repair shop.

ALI is not the be all end all of lift safety. It just means the manufacturer was willing to pay for the cert for marketing.

If you are not going for the commercial market you don’t need to pay for the certification. For the parking and DIY market, certification means much less. My lift is certified but if the one I wanted was not and had a good reputation, I would have bought it.

Seeing one in person and feeling how heavy duty, well made and the over all quality of it was the only certification I needed

Having gone through ALI training and looking through documentation ALI certification is no joke. They take lift design and safety very seriously. Its not just some seal of approval.

That doesn't mean non certified lifts are unsafe or certified lifts are better.

One thing is certain, that the testing is not free for the manufacturer.

But if it gives you confidence in the lift, by all means, use it as part of the decision making process. It is your safety, money and comfort, not anyone else's.

Could not be happier with my Twin Busch 10,000 LB complete with alignment plates, slip plates and a rolling gantry style pneumatic scissor jack.

I've owned two Bendpaks and three Backyard Buddy lifts.

I'm considering a Advantage DX9000-XLT.

The Advantage looks like a clone of the BB(which is a good thing IMO). Has anyone here laid eyes on both the BB and the Advantage?

BB irritates me with their lack of pricing information. When a website asks me for contact info to get a quote on a standard item I usually just move on.

I have an Advantage SS9000-XLT and I've seen a Backyard Buddy. While they are quite similar in concept and looks, I doubt there are any interchangeable parts between the two. IMO, they are both fine lifts. The difference for me is Advantage was right up front about pricing on their website and yet Tony still honored special show pricing months after the show when I was finally ready. They also offered local installation, a much better warranty and far more accessories as standard.

Thanks for the information.

I'll check and see if they are going to any shows or auctions.

I'll have to ask if they do show delivery.
