Hello all, I am hoping to get some answers about installing a garage door opener.
I have an uninsulated 16' wide aluminum door on my pole barn and I want to install a garage door opener. The issues:

- The door panels are laid out such as there is no support beam on the CL of the door. I think I am going to buy a support beam and install it so I can install the mount for the opener to this support beam. My other option would be to move the opener off center to get the mount on a support beam, not an idea I like.

- As I laid out the mounting bracket for the rail of the opener, I noticed that the springs were mounted higher than normal. So my mounting bracket is about 6" above the highest point of the door. The instructions say no more than 2". There is no way around this as the 2" mark puts the bracket in the springs. I am thinking of getting an extension for the arm that goes from the rail to the door. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Tom: i don't have the answer for your door problems, but might i suggest you ask this question on threads that are talking about similar doors. this thread is more to introduce yourself and while there are some very handy members that welcome new members it's always better to ask on threads concerning your issues or if you can't find any just start one in the right section. ok?

WELCOME and if you want to post up some pictures we are a visual bunch and maybe somebody will see your post and lend you some help.

cheers

greetings from the so fl area. I am new to the forum and looking for guidance/experience regarding garage doors and openers.

None yet. We have 10ft wide x 8'high openings, will be utilizing insulated doors, and are in hurricane zone 'C'. Would like anyone with experience on the 8500 series liftmaster units which attach to the spring bar as opposed to std ceiling mount units - pros and cons -

We'll be looking at Raynor, Overhead door, and others as far as door mfrs., but am open to suggestions to get some different looks.

Thanking the forum members in advance for opinions/suggestions on garage doors -

It's just a standard door. I don't know the make. We just bought the place in June so I wasn't the person who installed it.

Unfortunately they bought the cheapest door available. Some manufacturers use only 2 center styles instead of 3 but still should have a center style for the opener! As far as your spring being too high, sounds like they may have used a larger radius on the horizontal track.
