So... Long Time Lurker - First Time Poster. I have been following this site for a couple years now at least, for some reason never signed up. I think it was fear of becoming a GJ Junkie, except I already am, so I thought I would show up to my first meeting!

I like many here hunt and search the pages of CL looking for deals, and today I found one and jumped on it. But I am not sure as to the Identification, and hopefully I haven't overpaid. I gave $100 :eyecrazy:

These are the pics off CL i will post better ones soon. I thought when I looked at it that it may be Huot, but it looks a little different than the ones i'm seeing pics of. All in all its in pretty good shape the original color was red. The guy I bought it from was given the box by the original owner who was an auto body man who apparently repainted it. The last owner let some ****** or brake fluid sit on top of it so the paint is a little messed up on the top but My honest intentions were to restore it so not a big deal.

Agree on Huot, at least the top. Can you post better (closer) pics? The bottom looks interesting.

As long as they aren't rusted out or have major issues, I think you did just fine on the purchase.

Welcome BTW

Sorry about the first round pics I know they are bad. I will have to get better pics of the roller cab tomorrow after work because I have no power to my garage (live in an apt).
I did manage to get better pics of the top though. A few things so far: both top side stop hinges are missing, the handles don't match and are slightly different sizes so I am not sure which one is the right one although I bet when I get them off I should be able to tell which one doesn't belong, its pretty solid as far as the metal goes a little surface rust but the drawers have all had a liner in them for who knows how long so they are in good shape.

So digging through the vintage toolbox thread pg 98 has a good example of the top box leaving me to believe it is definitely Huot. But I am still very unclear of the Roller cab... here's a few quick shots this morn. Thanks for the welcome zkling.

JD: also welcome to the group and looks like you have a good eye. I haven't seen that bottom box around either, but i like it and happy to hear you are going to restore it. please post lots of pictures and details on the restorations for us that have some of these nice old boxes and would like to maybe take on the challenge of restoring ours some day.

$100 seems to be a pretty decent price for those boxes, but you bought a temporary job which should pay great dividends once you start using it for your tools.

Certainly looks like a remline or Huot top box. Bottom I'm not sure of. Think you did darn well for $100.

Thanks guys!
Anyone else on the Roller cab? I still have no idea, haven't been able to produce an example nor did I see any signifying marks on it.

Take a picture of the drawer slides on both boxes. I like the exterior color on those.

I got a pic of each of the slides, they are pretty much identical and look like many of the older style Huot slides I've seen in other threads. Also, as i'm sure you will see in the photo, the original color of the roller cab was blue. The top however seems to have started life the red color with hammer-tone silver drawers. I have started to rip out the old liners and simple clean the old grease off from the top I knew it was dirty but I didn't think I would find a Roach:shocking:
